Default Ms. Romano had some issues

I've been watching the Season 1 set, and it seem like the Ms. Romano character could be very short-fused, angry, bitter, and very unpleasant at the drop of a hat. No wonder she didn't get along with her older daughter. They were too much alike!!

Ann Romano I enjoyed because they wrote her well as being angry, pissed off, insecured and having to take care of herself for the first time in her life without relying on a man to do that as well as raising two teenage daughters.

She is the first divorced mom who is the lead character in a TV series (remember they try to make Mary Tyler Moore's character, Mary Richards' as a divorcee but they did not a show about a divorced woman), not perfect mom and with a temper to boot. I loved the episodes when she got on the warpath. The episode when her ex came by to announced his upcoming marriage and the argument was great. She slammed him good. Also, the first TV mom and daughter where you saw the open conflict.

Hats off to Norman Lear, again, for bringing reality by way of sitcoms.

I think it's good that Ann had two daughters - one the troublemaker and one the good girl. Barbara hardly gave Ann any trouble, but she was often caught in the middle of Ann and Julie's fights. But it was still clear that they all loved each otehr, and that was a good thing.

Opus you mentioned this before too! I wonder what happened to this poster , Seventies_Sitcoms? She ( I'm assuming this poster was a she) seemed to be a really big fan of the show. I wonder if she is re watching this time around on Antenna! I wish this person would come back on and post with us. A lot of ODAAT threads were started by this poster years ago. wondering what became of this person?
