This week, the Canadian networks go into upfront mode and begin to announce their new fall schedules. Earlier this week, CBC and CTV unveiled their new lineups and tomorrow Global/Canwest will have their turn. Also starting this week, the various specialty and digital stations that are owned by these networks begin to offer their fall schedules as well. Today, a whole bunch of stations that were part of the CHUM/CITY group and are now under new ownership at the hands of Bell Globemedia, the owners of CTV, had their turn in the spotlight. The one station that I was interested in (and I know some of you are as well) is TV Land Canada. I have not been very impressed with their schedule in the last few years and I remember telling them that at some point last year, with no luck. So now I was wondering a few things, such as: Will their lineup improve under new ownership? Will it sink to the depths of its US 'cousin'? Will there be anything worth watching this season?
Although the official schedule has yet to be named, they did give their viewers a hint of the programming that you can expect to see in Sept. and I have to say that so far it's an improvement over last year. Not great but not bad either. First, here are the series that are coming back in Sept. Dallas Happy Days Lassie 21 Jump Street Wiseguy Petticoat Junction Joanie Loves Chachi Now here's what will be added to that group: Fantasy Island Hart To Hart It's Garry Shandling's Show (the one he did before Larry Sanders) Love American Style It's that last one that has me the most excited, since I haven't seen Love American Style anywhere for at least 30 years. This was one of ABC's best series in the early 1970s and was part of a huge Friday night lineup that ABC has failed to match or better ever since. A special bonus will be when they get around to airing "Love And The Happy Day", the original pilot episode of "Happy Days". Again, not a great improvement but it's a start. At least we won't get "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition". Full schedule to follow soon. My overall grade: 6.5 out of 10. |

Press Release:
TV Land Canada Announces Its Fall 2007 Schedule TORONTO, June 5 -- On TV Land Canada, everything old is new again! New to the TV Land Canada schedule this September is Fantasy Island; Hart to Hart; Love, American Style; and It's Garry Shandling's Show. Also returning to TV Land Canada this fall are: Dallas, Happy Days, Lassie, 21 Jump Street, Petticoat Junction, Joanie Loves Chachi and Wiseguy. NEW PROGRAMS: FANTASY ISLAND -------------- Guests travel to the remote island resort to have their wishes fulfilled. Upon arrival, they are greeted by their mysterious host, the debonair and suave white-suited Mr. Roarke (Ricardo Montalban) and his diminutive sidekick, Tattoo (Hervé Villechaize), whose cry, "De plane! De plane!," became a popular catchphrase. HART TO HART ------------ Jonathan Hart was a self-made millionaire - the CEO of Hart Industries, a global conglomerate. His gorgeous wife Jennifer was a freelance journalist. They are both amateur sleuths who find themselves up to their eyeballs in murder, smuggling, theft and international espionage. Created by author Sidney Sheldon, Hart to Hart stars Robert Wagner and Stefanie Powers as the Harts; Lionel Stander as Max, their loyal live-in housekeeper and chauffeur; and Freeway, their scruffy little dog. LOVE, AMERICAN STYLE -------------------- In this anthology comedy series, each hour-long episode features a line-up of different celebrity guest stars appearing in short stories or vignettes about love and romance. An episode which aired on February 25, 1972, entitled "Love and the Happy Days," became the pilot for the popular TV series Happy Days. That episode was written by Garry Marshall and featured Ron Howard (as Richie), Marion Ross (as Mrs. Cunningham), Anson Williams (as Potsie), among others. IT'S GARRY SHANDLING'S SHOW --------------------------- Set in Garry Shandling's condominium in Sherman Oaks, California, Shandling plays a single man looking for the right woman. He spends his free time with his platonic friend Nancy (Molly Cheek), his best friend's family (Stanley Tucci and Bernadette Birkett) and his single mother. Much of the show mimicked Shandling's own life, and although each episode of the show was scripted, Shandling was known to improvise his lines. RETURNING FAVOURITES: DALLAS ------ Big hair, cat-fights and shoulder pads are only part of the pop-culture charm of Dallas. The quintessential '80s soap opera chronicles the exploits of wealthy Texas oil millionaires and their shady business dealings and dysfunctional family dynamics. Stars Larry Hagman, Linda Gray, Priscilla Presley and George Kennedy. HAPPY DAYS ---------- Long before political correctness would make stories about clean-cut boys obsessed with seducing girls and how to be cool unthinkable, there was Happy Days. The show presented an idealized version of life in late '50s and early '60s America. Stars Ron Howard and Henry Winkler. LASSIE ------ Over the course of 691 episodes, Timmy never fell down a well. Although the series was known for a dramatic well rescue that never occurred, Lassie rescues Timmy from bank robbers, runaway trains and rapid rivers. Stars Lassie the Dog, Jon Provost and June Lockhart. 21 JUMP STREET -------------- Known as the show that launched the career of Johnny Depp, 21 Jump Street has five seasons of great success. Jump Street is a group of young cops whose youthful appearances enabled them to work undercover to catch troubled youths. The show received critical acclaim for addressing real issues like hate crimes, drug abuse, gay-bashing, AIDS and sexual promiscuity. Also stars Peter DeLuise, Holly Robinson and Dustin Nguyen. WISEGUY ------- This Emmy-nominated series tells the story of an undercover agent who must play the part of a criminal in order to break into the local crime ring. Agent Vinnie Terranova must keep the secret of his alter ego from his family and friends in order to save the world. Stars Ken Wahl. PETTICOAT JUNCTION ------------------ Get on the right track with classic television. Set in the rural town of Hooterville, the series follows the goings-on at the Shady Rest Hotel and the Hooterville Cannonball, a steam-driven train. City folks escape their hectic urban life with brief stays in the rural village causing crazy misadventures for everyone. Stars June Lockhart, Lori Saunders and Edgar Buchanan. JOANIE LOVES CHACHI ------------------- The Happy Days spin-off follows the exploits of Joanie and Chachi as they move to Chicago and try to make it on their own with a rock band. Besides trying to keep Joanie happy, Chachi must also deal with the often unwanted, but sometimes needed, advice and interference from his friends, relatives and neighbours. Stars Scott Baio, Erin Moran and Ellen Travolta. TV Land Canada, a division of CHUM Television, is a 24-hour-a-day English-language channel (www.tvlandcanada.com) devoted to providing viewers a range of familiar TV favourites that celebrate what is best about television. It is the one place on the dial that people can always count on for timeless TV satisfaction - guaranteed. |

They have a box on their website where you can "Suggest a show" and I have
requested Love, American Style in the past and I guess a few other people must have also. I would like to think they actually listen to our requests. It's too bad they don't have that many 60s and 70s shows on the schedule but at least there's one good one to look forward too. I couldn't care less about Hart to Hart or any of the hour-long shows they have. They're too recent. They should show older stuff like The Outer Limits or Land of the Giants if they're not going to show sitcoms. Right now sitcoms are out of style on network TV and it seems like they're programming this station the same way. But the reason I watch TV Land is because I can't stand current TV shows. They need more sitcoms on their schedule! They just don't get it. At least they don't have that Mr. T reality crap on anymore. Man, that was the pits. |

Which means there is no need for a TV Land Canada 2007 Thread-lol Can't Sal just go to the Individual Board of the Shows that TV LAND Canada will air or if he is going to post about TV LAND Canada maybe the thread title should be like this below? "For those of you in Canada, this is the Fall Schedule for TV Land Canada" |

The fact that Canada is in the title of the channel should be enough warning that it is the Canadian version and not the US TV Land.
Can't wait to see Love American Style |

I still don't understand why Sal is allowed to GLOAT and basically show the fans in the U.S. on this board what TV LAND Canada has and that the US TV Land doesn't. And all it does is make certain members like you say-"I wish I can see Love American Style" |
