Default Were We Too Stupid to Notice?

There are two major inconsistencies that are too obvious to ignore. They really bother me:

1. Royal Wilder and family: In season 7 it is Royal, wife Millie and sons Rupert and Myron. In season 9 it is Royal (played by a different actor) and daughter Jennie.

2. Isaiah Edwards and family: Starting in season 3, the Edwards family is wife Grace, John Jr. (until he is killed), Carl and Alicia. In season 8, Isaiah is a drunk and ruins his marriage with Grace (played by a different actress), and has Carl (played by a different actor) and Alicia (same actress).

It seems like these later episodes were just stuck in, and they really insult the viewers' intelligience. It would be as if they wrote Jonathan Garvey with a different wife and a daughter instead of Andrew. Some things just don't make sense and should be left as is.

The Royal Wilder one really is annoying. And thank you for pointing these out. It really does insult our intelligience to think we won't remember characters and their family members.

Quick question, how many brothers did Almanzo have? What was the name of the younger brother? He was the one that caused problems with Almanzo and Eliza Jane and basically Almanzo told him to leave. This is the brother that Charles was hoping Laura would like better since he was more her age.

Perley Day Wilder - that episode aired in Season 6, and is entitled "Wilder & Wilder". The role was played by an actor named Charles Bloom. Yes, I'd never heard of him either until I watched the episode.

Ironically, both Dean Butler and Charles Bloom later appeared in TV flick, The Kid With the 200 IQ, starring Gary Coleman.

Great. Thank you. That was bugging me. I never liked the names the Wilders had in their family: ALMANZO, ROYAL and now PERLEY. YUCK!

I know, their names were weird, but those were the actual names in the family. The real-life Almanzo Wilder actually had two more sisters besides Eliza-Jane, Laura and Alice. Maybe they could have done stories about them in the later episodes rather than having to bring in all those fake, made-up characters.

I thought Perley Day was cast well because he resembled Almanzo.

Forgive my forgetfulness, but what season is John Jr. killed? And how did he die?

He died in season 8. It is not shown, only referred to in the "Chicago" episode. John Jr. is living in the city and is killed in an accident, apparently being run down by a carriage in the street. Isaiah and Charles go to Chicago to take care of things and they find out other things about John's death.
