But of course, the smarter, made up Vera. I could kick it with her. Dingy Vera was "too special".

Definitely smarter Vera. I happened to catch "The Reporter" a couple nights ago and Vera was like a completely different person, like she really pulled herself together.

I think the problem was the change was too sudden. One episode she is 'special' and the next, she can do advanced calculus. LOL

I wonder if they got letters from people saying that they didn't like the character and they decided well we better get her off the "special bus" FAST.

Advanced-Calculus would probably put her back on. LOL

Wasn’t there an episode where Vera tried to commit suicide? And they had to drag her around the diner to keep her awake?

Yes, and it created a major continuity issue.

Vera tries to kill herself after rejecting a marriage proposal from a boyfriend. She says he's SOOOO Boring.

A few episodes later, she's depressed, and says she only had 3 dates in 3 years, and had never been proposed to. They fix her up with some dude from the diner, they hit it off and plan to elope, then she runs him over by accident, and they cool things off.

Vera struck me as the type that she was likely a straight A student, but was ditzy and lacked a lot of common sense.

There was another bad continuity issue last night (why my husband is watching this, I'll never know, but he is). Last night, Vera said she'd never seen snow, but at some point that I don't think is too long from now, she's supposed to be from Boston. Boston definitely sees snow.....
