Network only acquires seven new U.S. shows

By BRENDAN KELLY MONTREAL - Given its abundance of returning hits, Canadian network CTV unveiled a fall schedule Monday remarkably light on new U.S. series. CTV programming president Susanne Boyce announced Monday at the Canuck web's fall launch in Toronto that the network has only acquired seven new U.S. shows. They are "Private Practice", the spin-off from "Grey's Anatomy" (also a hit on CTV in Canada); "Dirty Sexy Money", a new prime-time soap starring Canuck thesp Donald Sutherland, Peter Krause, William Baldwin, and Jill Clayburgh; "Big Shots", a series starring Dylan McDermott, Christopher Titus, Joshua Malina and Michael Vartan about four businessmen on the make; "Moonlight", which is a drama about a vampire who becomes a detective; "Gossip Girl", a new drama from "O.C." creator Josh Schwartz; and "Pushing Daisies". CTV has picked up only one new U.S. sitcom, "The Big Bang Theory", a comedy about best friends.
"With 16 returning Top 20 hits, we've taken a bulletproof schedule and made it stronger," said CTV programming chief Boyce. "We've strategically hand-picked the most engaging new titles for the fall schedule, each delivering creative firepower."

CTV has also snared the Canuck TV rights to "Without a Trace" and "Two and a Half Men". Returning CTV shows include "American Idol", the three "CSI" series, "Lost", "Desperate Housewives", and "Criminal Minds".

Who cares, I watch the U.S. networks usually anyway.

(I know it's CTV you're talking about tho).

Really, we just go to the U.S. network if we want more selection.

Hell, I'm just glad we're not still stuck with a choice of The Irish Rovers and The Rita McNeill Show on Canadian networks.

I saw a preview for the Big Bang Theory just the other day, and it looks hysterical! So Canada's lucky, they seem to have picked up a good new one. But it's not just about best friends, it's about nerdy best friends. What could be better than that!
