Default Please pray for my family

My family has been going through some very tough times lately and I would like for things to turn around for the better. It just seems like one thing after another and I wonder if it will ever end. First, my parents get seperated, then my Dad gets in to an accident and breaks his ankle in three places. He has to use a wheel chair to get around for a few months and any sort of pressure on his leg could potentially damage him long-term. I'm the only one living here right now, so I've been helping him out as much as I can (as well as my Grandmother and brothers).

He's now having troubles at his job because of his disability and fears he might lose the job. Today he goes in to a meeting at his work place to discuss the status of his employment. Please pray for him!

Please keep us in your prayers and thoughts Thanks, everyone.

I'm sorry to hear about your family's problems and hope things get better soon.

I think it sucks that in the States they can fire you (especially that quickly) for illness or injury. They can't do that the same in Canada (it has to go on and on for months and even then, usually you go on short or longterm disability). Talk about kicking you when you're down. It's not like he asked to break his ankle that badly.

A coworker of mine broke her ankle badly a few years ago. Her office was on the second floor and she was in a wheelchair too so couldn't make it up. The company simply found her a spot on the first floor where she could fit her wheelchair in. She had pins in it for almost a year but her job was never in jeapordy which was a huge load off her mind so she could still focus on her work.

Hopefully they'll be able to work something out for your dad like that.

Thanks, Cathy I hope he'll get through this too. Your friend's injury sounds a lot like my Dad's...he had pins and screws put in his ankle too and will be in a cast for a few months.

Technically, it's illegal to fire someone because of a disability in the States too, but my Dad told me his company is privately owned and headed by accountants and lawyers...so, yeah, they'll pretty much find a way to sneak by that law

You've got that right (unfortunately). There's plenty of "sneaky" ways a private company can get rid of someone. And lawyers and accountants - a real bunch of "laughing boys". They go into that profession because they have little heart or personality as it is.

Let's keep our fingers crossed and hope they'll work something out with him instead.

I'm so sorry to hear that, Kristel. Things like that add up and cause a lot of stress. I hope for the best for all of you, no one deserves any of that.

I'm sorry to hear of your troubles. I hope your father makes a speedy recovery, and I hope he made out okay at work. It's against the law to fire someone because they're sick. It's FMLA (Family Medical Leave Act), and protects a person's job for six month for illness, maternity leave or to take care of an ill family member.

Kristel, as one who has gone through almost unbearable family stress at times, my heart and prayers go out to you as well. I will keep good thoughts for you! Hang in there.

Thanks to everyone for your kind words and for keeping my family in your prayers/thoughts. Unfortunately, it looks like my Dad's company is going to replace him any way It seems like we can't catch a break.

Just trying to keep my head above water now...
