Default A-Rod is a marked man

This has been a rather difficult week for Alex Rodriguez, who may one day overtake Barry Bonds as the most hated man in baseball. Some of you may already know about the mystery blonde that he was spotted with outside a strip club in Toronto. On Wed. night, in the final game of the Yankees' series with the Blue Jays, with the scandal fresh in everyone's mind, he was running around the bases when a routine pop fly was hit between 2nd and 3rd base. Two Blue Jays infielders, John McDonald and Howie Clark, called up from the minors the previous day, camped under it unsure of who would make the catch. McDonald was about to get it when he heard someone yelling for the ball behind him. He thought it was Clark and so he stepped aside only to see the ball drop between them for a hit. The TV replays showed that it was A-Rod who yelled "Mine!" as the ball was about to be caught. The Blue Jays were very upset about this but the umpires were somehow able to calm them down and no further incidents occurred. No action was taken on A-Rod during the game.

Now you can look at this from 2 different angles. One side will say that this is just a case of a player trying to throw off the concentration of an opposing player by bending the rules in his favour. Or you can side with the Jays and think of it as a case of poor sportsmanship and a lack of respect for your fellow players and for the game of baseball itself. Compared to Barry Bonds injecting himself with foreign substances as he tries to gain the home run record, this may not seem like a big deal, but, three days later, this is still a hot issue in Toronto and it may not be over yet. The Yankees come back here in July and I would suggest that A-Rod keep his head up at all times.

I honestly don't know why they're making a big deal out of this. I'm sure he's not the first player to do something like that.

I don't think anyone could top Barry Bonds as MLB's most hated man. That is, unless Albert Belle ever came out of retirement.

Exactly, he is picked on more, because he is A-Rod.

I wonder what's going to happen when Bonds' breaks Aaron's record? He better hope he breaks it in San Fran or else he's gonna get booed out of the stadium he's playing at. IMO it should go into the record books with an asterisk next to his name.

Amen to that! I agree, Hank Aaron is such a classy guy. Why does Barry Bonds have to ruin everything??

Be happy Albert Belle never approached the record. He never dealt with steroids (as far as I know ), but we did have Batgate in 1994. It was perfect timing for him, as the strike ended the season shortly thereafter.

The guy never gets any respect. Heck, even some Yankee fans boo him, I don't understand it.

Well I don't think Bonds will have that record for long cause I'm sure A-Rod will break it in a few years (Hopefully). And if not him, someone else will do it.

Whoever does it in the future, I hope it's someone that has a little class, like Derek Jeter, for example. This season, Toronto's Frank Thomas will eventually hit his 500th home run, currently holding at 495. If he hadn't received so many injuries during his career, he'd be close to the record himself. I hope that he can stay healthy from now on so I can enjoy seeing him play for at least one full season.

I guess you can say that what A-Rod did was unsportsman like.

But it was pretty funny.

Derek Jeter is a classy man. He seems to respect his fans and people in general, especially kids. His parents seem so proud of him, rightly so. He is a cutie also.
