Default Even the Good Ones Can Be Bad

Sometimes even the "good" characters showed a bad side. I was disappointed in a few of them, but as usual, they eventually learned a lesson and snapped out of it.

-Doc Baker shunned black doctor Caleb Ledoux
-Lars Hanson was bitter toward the guy who got Carrie out of the mine shaft
-Nels was cruel to his sister Annabelle
-Caroline blamed Miss Beadle when Carrie fell down the mine shaft
-Laura was horrible to Doc Baker when her baby died
-Almanzo treated Laura like crap after he had the stroke

I think the only time Reverend Alden was "bad" was when he finally put his foot down about the Gallinders. That was justified and he looked ready to kick some a**!

Laura hated her new baby brother. She wished he never existed. She got her wish.

Don't forget the family always treated Carrie like a baby - even when she was 12! She only had one line per episode and never had a storyline of her own!

Oh, Irene and her Salt Sister: there was so much violence. How can this be a family show!? There was disease, rape, murder, plague, gossip, blasphemy, bigotry, greed, death, mauling, psychopathy, rage, alcoholism, drug abuse, theft, cheating, beatings, cruelty, unwed pregnancy, bastardism, atheism, prejudice, hatred, snobism, animal abuse, racism, etc.

In spite of it all, I continue to watch everyday!

All that was left to touch was incest. I think it would be easier to list WHAT DIDN'T OCCUR in Walnut Grove.

I agree! With the earlier posts about the people that disappeared, the jerks, the good that did bad, all the deaths, the mean Olesens, the stupid episodes, Charles' hair-do's, Carrie's inept episodes, and Laura's six year growth from buck-toothed tomboy to married mother, incest was the only thing (as far as we know and I wonder about Sylvia's father) that didn't happen.

Hail to the "best family show ever!"

Of course, like I said, I still watch 3-4 episodes a day!

It may have been a family show, but you would never know by the episodes they showed.

Yeah, that was misdirected anger, for sure. Though that was said out of the panic that she might not ever see her daughter again and looking for someone to blame, so it is just a wee bit understandable because she wasn't thinking straight.
The time I think that Caroline went "bad" was when "Buck Rogers" came to town and worked on the house while Charles was away, and she got kind of flirty and even changed her hairstyle because "he" liked it that way. Shame on you, Caroline. While the cat's away the mice will play, huh?!
I actually was glad to see Mary tell him to hit the road and call her mom out on it, because I think she was right.

I would hope my own daughter would do the same thing for me should she see some "questionable" goings-on happening around my wife. Not that that would happen, but geeze, if even Caroline Ingalls can be tempted....

Caroline didn't change her hairstyle. She had it down for the evening because it was time to go to bed. Charles had just arrived home and it so happened to be when Caroline had her hair down. He mentioned he liked it. Women like it when their man in their life notices small details like that. That is why she ran out to him and hugged him. She knew she had a great husband and he appreciated her. I never saw Caroline flirt with "Uncle Chris". He was the one who fell for Caroline. She never would have done anything like that to Charles or behind his back.

I agree. I think Caroline was totally devoted to Charles, and vice-versa. They both had people hit on them and they realized it, but they were too much in love to ever consider reciprocating.
