That's a shame. She was so young. I clicked on the link, and it had a nice family picture, with her husband and five children.

Rest in peace, Laurie.
Here's what they have on her bio page, from Friday the 13th films: Laurie Bartram - "Brenda" (May 16, 1958 - May 25, 2007) Biography: "Laurie Bartram had several years of dance training before she became an actress. She got her big break in acting in 1978 on the soap opera, Another World as 'Karen Campbell'. Apparently after filming Friday the 13th, she became a born again Christian and left acting. She lived with her husband and five children in Lynchburg, VA." - IMDB.com Update: "Laurie has lived an amazing life; she's been a ballerina who danced with some of the world's best companies, an actress, a scholar, a teacher, a wife, a mother to five of the sweetest kids I've ever had the pleasure to know. She's a joy to all who know her. I'm proud and grateful to be her brother. It is so wonderful to know that so many others love her, too." - Laurie Bartram's brother Info: "Laurie Bartram has an interesting place in the Friday the 13th universe as, it seems, fans of the series have warmly embraced her over the years, more so than most of the lead heroines. Bartram's old fashioned beauty, reminiscent of the natural looks of the depression era film stars, reinforces the impression that her character, Brenda, is a really sweet girl; a genuinely concerned young woman who's determined to make Camp Crystal Lake a happy and safe place for everyone. Prior to being cast in Friday the 13th, Bartram was already a well-established veteran of the Los Angeles and New York acting scenes: she'd appeared on such 70's TV staples as Emergency and, shortly prior to her appearance in Friday the 13th, had a recurring role on Another World (at the same time that Adrienne King was a day-player on the show). 'I liked Brenda and I think they chose me for that role because I was a little older that the other actors,' says Bartram. 'At some point, I thought they were going to give me a different part, maybe the lead heroine role, but I was really happy to be doing a film and I felt like Brenda was a very compassionate character.'" - pg. 26, Making Friday the 13th Quote:

To me, Brenda is the most memorable character from Friday the 13th. Alice was a good leading protagonist, but she wasn't as interesting as Brenda. In the film her death is caused by her own good will. Brenda went out in the rain to help that crying "child" she kept hearing and was confronted with the wrath of Mrs. Voorhees instead. Out of all the deaths in the series, this one probably bothers me most.
Laurie said, "...I felt Brenda was a very compassionate character." I think it only worked because Laurie herself was such a compassionate person. Her biography is a testament to that. Rest in peace. |
