Question Who were all the final appealants?

As I'm sure some of you know, "Final Appeal" is my favorite segment on the show. I'm trying to put together a list of all the cases that were profiled. Please feel free to add any that I may be forgetting. Here is what I have come up with...

1. Glen Consagra - murder.
2. Michael Scott Martin - armed robbery.
3. Dr. John Branion - murder.
4. Larry Race - murder.
5. Johnny Lee Wilson - murder and arson.
6. Micheal Lloyd Self - murder.
7. Rick McCue - murder.
8. Patricia Stallings - infanticide.
9. Stuart Heaton - murder.
10. Bird Road Rapist (forgot his actual name) - rape.
11. Rolando Cruz - murder.
12. Darlie Routier - murder.

Not featured on UM, but featured on the "Final Appeal" spinoff

1. Dr. Jeffrey McDonald - murder.
2. Anthony Miller (UM or Final Appeal?) - armed robbery, attempted murder of a police officer.
3. John Purvis - murder.
4. The group of black seamen accused of mutiny during WWII.
5. Paul Farrell - murder (?)

Hey Justin,

Great topic - I was actually thinking of starting it myself awhile back but kept forgetting.

Tommy Ziegler would be a notable addition - He's on death row in Florida for the murder of his wife and in-laws back in the mid 70s.

You know if we can put together a pretty comprehensive list, maybe Crystaldawn could put together a special set that collects all the "Final Appeals" segments together. I was surprised that a "Final Appeals" set was not released along with the other First Look sets.

I would like to see the update to the Patty Stallings case in which the prosecutor is shown making his lame apology to the Stallings.

You mean the one where he admits he's just a moron from Missouri? (Apologies to anyone from the "Show Me State" - I mean no malice)

Yeah, I think she has most of these. The only obvious exception being the Bird Road Rapist as I don't think that has been on Lifetime. Also, the "Final Appeal" episodes.

I can't believe I left off Tommy Zielgler. There was also the Frederick and Cedrick Young case.

Was Bob Hall's plight a "final appeal" or "unexplained death"? I can't remember.

Yes I have all the ones JS listed except the BRR, Paul Farrell (I don't even remember hearing about that one) and not sure about the entire Stallings case (I know I have the update though with the "apology").

I think the Kay Hall case was an unexplained death. When they filmed the case he hadn't even been convicted yet and kept maintaining his innocence and then at the end RS said he pled guilty to something and received a ton of years probation.

Was the Jacqueline Dowaliby case a final appeal?

Yep.

You could also say the same thing about the judge in the original segment - the one who denied the admission of the MMA evidence. What a dunce. I'm very happy that she was completely exonerated in the end. She suffered needlessly at the mercy of the 'system'.

I wonder why Bob Hall only got probation in that case. Being from VA I find that to be quite anomalous to the way things usually are in my state. I wonder what circumstances the judge considered in passing that sentence considering that Bob was an ex-con.

I believe the charge was downgraded to manslaughter and he pled guilty.

Unexplained Death. David Dowaliby had already been released.

This case is, I think, eerily similar to the Ramseys. Just an observation.

I have the entire Stallings case, if you need it I'll hook ya up.

CD: off topic: I unintentionally damaged my copy of the update of the Lancaster, California extortion scheme. Someday can you hook me up with that?

You know I never tape it because I'm just so sick of it being aired all the time but if I do make a Final Appeal dvd I would appreciate having the entire thing.

Sorry you damaged your copy but no way......uh I mean sure I'll send you another one.

Yep Final Appeals are the best! Anyways, wasn't the Circleville Letter guy listed as a Final Appeal? I can't remember his name at this point..

yeah I agree. Somebody awhile back mentioned a treasures box set and I didn't think there would be enough segments to put on it. I was just thinking they could have combined it with some lost heirs segments, which are similar in some ways, and that would have made a good box set. I always really liked the treasures segments.

It was. But the big difference in the Circleville case was that the unjustly accused was already out of prison before the segment was produced. Paul Freshour was paroled in the spring of 1994, and the segment originally aired that fall.
