Default What is going on with some parents now a days?!?!

I'm just so tired of dealing with other peoples children. I'm DONE!! Don't get me wrong! I love kids. I've been working with them for 12 years, but I just can't handle it anymore. I'm done!! The next time I deal with a kid let it be my own!! I think kids are precious. It's just sad how much power and control little kids have these days. They run the house and EVEN tell their parents what to do. WTF?!?! And these are 2-4 years olds. OMG!! And some parents say nothing because they feel that even by saying "No!" they'll ruin their childs little life forever! WHAT?! Are you serious?! OMG!! PUHLEEZE!! And would you believe this 3 year old girl smacked her mother in the face because she wanted a cupcake and all the mother did was walk away and buy the cupcake.....with tears in her eyes. WHAT IS THIS WORLD COMING TO?!?!?!

What's going on?! Did I miss something?!

*Rant over*

Yes, apparently you missed the new child psychology trend that was started around the 80's, and it had to do with a number of numbskull "experts" who promoted a "self-esteem first and foremost" type of child-rearing and having parents turn into mini-child psychologists, analyzing every little burp and bowel-movement from their child, while advocating doing away with any type of real discipline that worked, like corporal punishment, and teaching the child who is the parent.
Welcome to "progressive" child rearing.

Btw, please don't quit being a child care worker. We need some people who aren't namby-pamby's taking care of kids.
...then again, they would never allow you to discipline the kids(I mean, other than "time outs") and if you did raise your voice to them(like telling them 'no'), you would probably be sued by an irate, "self-esteem first" parent, so you're probably better off leaving.

Nothing much. Just the overall decline of American society.

A warning first. Do it again....then a nice little swat on the ass next. Gee, I wonder how many adults these days grew up under that regime. I bet the majority of them became productive people in society. No long lasting effects yet the experts say that we're wrong for doing this.
That's what I mean. Good old fashioned discipline never killed anyone and people grew up with respect and manners. Now you have school shootings, kids killing their parents and all of that in between. I mean, I'm not saying to beat your kids but don't let them control everything.

I was a nanny, daycare teacher, teacher's aid and a teacher. Believe me, sometimes parents are worse than their own children. I just couldn't anymore so I've taken clerical work and I like this pace better. After I quit working with children, I still would babysit on the weekends or on my days off but no more! I'm done with dealing with kids. I think 12 years is enough! I still enjoy children. I hope the stress I went through doesn't kill my wanting children of my own.

Parents are worried abt what other people will think abt them if they spank their child. Some parents have disciplined their children and next thing you know, the social services are at their door regarding "child abuse". Believe me, I am sure when that 3 year old got in the car with mommy, that mommy "let her have it...but good".

I was in the store the other day and my 3 yr old was standing up in the basket, I told her to sit down twice and she ignored me, so the 3rd time I told her to sit down and I popped her legs twice. She started to cry and this lady in front of me said that now a days some people are afraid to discipline their children because they are afraid that others might call CPS or the police. I told her that I didn't care, that they could call who ever they wanted, those are my children and I don't want them growing up thinking that they can do whatever the hell they want.

A woman my mom knows got called on by CPS for spanking her child at a store. I hope the person who called gets the karma that's coming to them.

This is why we have kids at my school who don't take punishment seriously. Makes my job frustrating as hell.

I totally agree. My parents raised three kids wonderfully, and weren't afraid to spank us when we got out of line. There was the dreaded wooden spoon. Actually, all Mom or Dad had to say was "Don't make me get the wooden spoon". That would shut us up in a hurry! If we misbehaved in public, Mom would just say, "we're leaving" and that was that. She marched us right out of there, without a word, until we were in the car. THEN she would speak...

I worked in a movie theater for over 6 years and saw my fair share of bratty kids. One time I was giving out Pokemon cards at the box office window and handed a couple to this woman with a little boy, who couldn't have been older that 5 or 6. He YANKS them right out of her hand and she does...nothing. If I'd done that to one of my parents or grandparents, I'd have been smacked hard across the face. I would have deserved it, too!!

Wimpy parents in a PC environment. TOTAL crap...

LOL When my siblings and I got into trouble my dad would line us up in the driveway and hit our butts with a switch. This was the 50's. And get this........... We had to go and tear off the switch from a tree for ourselves. We survived.

yeah, some parents/kids are really annoying. while i don't agree with hitting, just leaving a situation totally ignored isn't right.

there are still good parents out there though. it's just that the good ones aren't as glaringly obvious as the bad ones, as the good parents' kids aren't climbing around on shelves in the food store.
