Default Rate Your Town

Time for a poll... rate your town.
I got some of the categories from a book called "Sunbelt Retirement."
(You don't have to list your town's name if you don't want to.)
Ratings are 0-10 (0= poor; 10= excellent).
You should be able to find population at Wikipedia.

Here are my ratings...

Town------------------------------ Northridge/Porter Ranch, Calif.
Population------------------------- 84,195
Elevation-------------------------- Approx. 1,000 feet

Climate & environment-------------- 8
Scenery & views------------------- 8
Outdoor recreation----------------- 9
Crowds---------------------------- 5 ('50s= 9; '60s= 8)
Medical availability----------------- 9
Housing expense------------------- 3 (ave. house ~$650,000)
Cost of living----------------------- 4
Taxes------------------------------ 6
Recreation and culture-------------- 7
Special senior citizens service------- 8
Pollution--------------------------- 7
Fog (less days= higher rating)------- 8 (very few foggy days)
Cars, variety available-------------- 8
Shopping-------------------------- 10
Police & fire protection------------- 8

Overall rating---------------------- 8

Most-liked feature(s)-------------- Mild climate and scenery
Least-liked feature(s)-------------- Crowds and high costs; semi-arid (could use a little more rain)

Trivia------------------------------Home of Nancy Cartwright (voice of Bart Simpson); known as "Horse Capital of the West" in the 1940s and '50s; many celebrity ranch owners (Clark Gable, Carole Lombard, Robert Taylor, Jack Oakie, Barbara Stanwyck, Marion [Mrs. Zeppo] Marx)

Population------------------------- Roughly 200K, minus the suburbs
Elevation-------------------------- 955 ft. How precise.

Climate & environment-------------- 6 (though I like the change of seasons)
Scenery & views------------------- 7
Outdoor recreation----------------- I don't know...I don't like outdoor recreation

Crowds---------------------------- 7
Medical availability----------------- 9

Housing expense------------------- 7 (compared to everywhere else anyway. Not like I can afford anything but a box.)

Cost of living----------------------- 6

Taxes------------------------------ (I don't pay property taxes. So I don't know. Income taxes suck and I'm not a fan of sales tax- 6% here)

Recreation and culture-------------- (I'm not into culture and pay little attention to it. But I think it's gotten better in the past decade.)

Special senior citizens service------- (No idea. Really. The nursing home my great grandmother was in was icky, but apparently it was one of the better ones. But then where in the US is a really nice nursing home??)

Pollution--------------------------- 9
Fog (less days= higher rating)-------9 (basically mornings)
Cars, variety available-------------- 9
Shopping-------------------------- 7
Police & fire protection------------- 8

Overall rating---------------------- 8

Most-liked feature(s)-------------- It's not so large a city it's dangerous and overcrowded. But there's still plenty of things like major shopping and restaurants.

Least-liked feature(s)--------------The city doesn't take care of the roads in the "slums". They also need to start demolishing eyesore houses and buildings. People think we date farm animals and we all live in fields.

Trivia------------------------------ The east side is disgusting. Yokels and drug dealers. So don't get lost on the east side.

Oxnard is a city in Ventura County.

The community was named after Henry T. Oxnard, owner of the American Beet Sugar Co. One of the first employees to work there was my grandfather.

The latitude of Oxnard is 34.197N. The longitude is -119.176W.

Pacific Standard Time

Known as the STRAWBERRY CAPITOL OF THE WORLD. We also grow citrus, lettuce, celery, avocados and various other vegetables and fruits that eventually lands on your dinner table.

Although Oxnard has vast agricultural fields, we are also a beach community.

Oxnard has been used for various films and television productions. The movie ZODIAC with Robert Downey Jr. was partially filmed here. Also, the movie SIDEWAYS, ERIN BROCKOVICH, etc. Too many movies to list.
