Default Trying to figure out what was it about the first Maggie I didn't like

Do you think it was that viewers had goten use to seeing Mr. Drummond Single or was it just the women who played the first Maggie was all wrong for the part?

I think it really had to do with people use to seeing Mr. D a single man. Both Maggie's were horrible.

The main problem with the second Maggie is she was waaaaay over the top. She tried to dang hard to be a dramatic character.

I just found out today that ABC cancelled DS after ep 19 in the last season.-lol So the last season only has 19 eps instead of 24

Maggie #1. I did not have a problem with her voice nor her acting. I loved her southern accent. I love Dixie Carter. It is just that she seemed out of place. She seemed better on "Designing Women". Mary Anne Mobley who is #2 seemed to play better with Conrad Bain as a wife. I loved her in the role. The only thing to mar my happiness with her in the role was the acting from time to time. She needed some work. About five or six years ago, we had a discussion on the boards about this issue with Mary Anne Mobley. She looked the part and I loved her portrayal but she needed some fine tuning with the acting.

To me, both Maggies did not have similar accents at all.

Hey Irene, I talked with Shavar Ross (Dudley) six years back and he told me that Gary did not like Dixie and so she was fired 'indirectly' by Gary. The producers let her go and brought in Miss America for the part. So it really wasn't another TV project that brought on her departure, she was let go. Things did not work out.

I think Dixie fit in waaaay better. She seemed like the type that would marry Drummond. She was likeable.

I agree with what was said, Mary Ann was toooo dramatic. Trying tooooo hard.

I think Karma kicked Gary in the a$$ for even suggesting someone to be fired. Look where he is at now.
