While this is just my opinion, after seeing the entire run of "TC" many times, I have to say that (though I loved them to death) the Ropers had to go by the end of the thrid season. At first I thought that they may have had a season more left in them, but the Ropers were really becoming repetitive in their jokes. As a matter of fact, a lot of "TC" eps. were becoming repetitive in the third season. You could almost set your watch to certain scenes/taglines.
Believe it or not, while it was not as good as it was, Chrissy leaving was almost something that had to happen too. She was also becoming boring by the end of her run. What do you think? |

I see where you come from. Sometimes when I watch one of the later ones, I wonder what wuold happen if nothing changed but you have to think about what good came of the later seasons with cast changes. I think Don Knotts was great as the little-boy-inside-a-man landlord also it gave Jenilee Harrison a jump start in her career and in a way, it did the same with Priscilla even though she had more credits to her name then Jenilee did.

I see what you mean. The Ropers ongoing battle with intimacy started to get a little old after a while. Mrs. Roper should have just accepted the fact that he wasn't going to change and move onto something else in their relationship. I'm sorry to say that Chrissy started to annoy me during her last year or so. Up until then, I really liked her character. That's not to say that I didn't like some of her later episodes though.

Your Reasoning for why they had to go after season 3 is why they were not allowed to return once their spinoff failed. I'm sure the producers spinned off the Ropers characters because they felt it was time for a CHANGE, not because they felt they deserved their own show

I agree. I've been watching a lot of TC with the Ropers lately, and that 'no sex' routine got very old. How many times can a person laugh at the same joke told a different way.

Terri and Cindy were both better roomates than Chrissy but Cindy had the same problem and Chrissy since Cindy's goofy bumbling ways got old quick too but Terri was the best roomate since she was funny and pretty and the best actor of the blondes! The show could've gone on longer with Terri! Too bad it didn't! |

Even though I like to see actors and actresses stay through out the entire run of a series, sometimes it is best to get new characters in there. It keeps things fresh. Don Knotts kind of revived the show a little bit. He was incredible. I think back to early Chrissy, though, before they made her too stupid, and I think that character would have been good until the very end.

I loved the Ropers, but I do agree that their jokes got old after a while. I loved the addition of Furley. He's my favorite of the landlords. As far as Chrissy goes, I thought she was funniest towards the end. Though I do think that if she had lasted longer she would have continued to get dumber an dumber and it would eventually no longer be funny.
