On the "Paper Route" episode, June was seen wearing slacks to tend to the garden.
Was this the only time she wore slacks/pants/trousers?I think she even wore a dress when they went on a picnic to the lake. Can anyone shed some light on this? |

I just saw June in pants again, in "The Happy Weekend" where they go to a cabin at a lake.
I bet it's the same and only pair she owns! |

Maybe she didn't care for pants.

That was the norm in the 50s. I have a 75-year old aunt, who has worn dresses her entire life. Just a matter of personal choice.

My mother and grandmothers never wore pants till i was in my late teens. I'm about five years younger than Beav. 57 TODAY.
And I think i read an interview where Barbara B. said that the reason June was always so dressed up was that it was because being a homemaker was her job and it was how she would have dressed if she were working in an office or dept. store. |

My great aunt also wore dresses and she did until she died. I have never saw her in pants.

That was the norm back then to see women mostly in skirts or dresses. Sometimes they would wear pants.
Nowadays its the opposite. I hardly ever see women in dresses or skirts. |

I was watching the episode last night where Wally and the Beaver get the paper route job, and in one scene June is wearing pants.

Funny, I don't think I ever recall June in pants!
And as others have mentioned, it was definitely the norm back then. Geez, I even remember my mother wearing dresses and my father in black pants and a white shirt on the weekends even. People were much more "formal" back then. There were even dress codes for women if they did work in an office - no pants and stockings (panti-hose hadn't even come out yet) had to be worn. When Yves Saint Laurent introduced the "pant suit" for women in the late 60s it was a huge thing. My mother loved them but it took her a good couple of years to get the nerve to ask her boss if it would be o.k. if she wore one to work. That was the first I remember her in slacks. My next door neighbour wears house dresses all the time. She recently had her 2nd baby and says she's much more comfortable in them and it hides her belly that she's still working off. |

In the episode where Wally/Beaver and Ward are at odds over the painting of the trash cans, I thought for sure we'd see June in pants, since it was implied that she'd finished the job for them, but nope... there she was, dress and all!

In "Wally's Girl Trouble", June is wearing pants when she's helping the Beav cut the grass for Wally.
