The first episode of "Bewitched" has got to be the best pilot ever.

The announcer explaining the situation, Samantha's and Darrin's courtship and wedding, and that dinner party with the horrible Sheila. First Sam made that piece of hair keep falling in Sheila's face, then she had something stuck on her tooth, then she put her elbow in the soup, then her dress became loose, then the server spilled food on her, then the front door opened and a gale force wind blew her wig off!
Brilliant, Sam! I loved her from that first episode and have always been on her side ever since.

Brilliant, Sam! I loved her from that first episode and have always been on her side ever since.

That indeed is one of the best and one of my fave episodes. I especially love how the show brought that character Sheila again later on and Samantha remembered how nasty that Sheila was and she wasn't going to let it happen again. That dog of Sheila's who gets his paws all wet and goes into the dirt and "paws" Sheila all over her clothes.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that one. Do you know what season it is on? I only have season one so far. The actress who played Sheila (Nancy Kovak) does a great job.

It was episode # 126 of season 4 "Snob in the Grass"
January.11,1967, where we met Sheila again & the Dog with Sam's motivation
made Sheila do a striptease of sorts in front of her Friends.

Those were some great episodes with Shelia, they should have done a couple more.

That was indeed a terrific episode! The very next episode was called "If They Never Met", and if Darrin had never met Samantha he would have married Sheila. He would have been rich but miserable as he realized he was never really in love with Sheila. Nancy Kovack was indeed one of Bewitched's most memorable guest stars.

Sheila was a big time b*tch. What I don't get is how Darrin allowed Samantha to be treated so shabbily by her. If my husband allowed some b*tch to treat me that way and he got mad at me for defending myself...he would REGRET IT!

The second time Darrin and Larry were trying to win Sheila's father's account. Larry threatened to fire Darrin (again) if he didn't go along with the plan. But the first time...I don't know. Sheila never returned after that disasterous second dinner...so I guess she learned the lesson - don't mess with Samantha Stephens!

Then again, she didn't know about Sam and her powers. I guess she figured since the Stephens' every visit ended in disaster, why keep inviting them to every party??

I would get so pissed when Larry used the "I will fire you" bit with Darrin. Isn't that illegal? Against labor code? I think so. You can't hold something over someone's head like that. And what does going to someone's house for dinner have to do with that? Either you get the account based on your good work, qualifications, and so forth or you don't get it at all.

That is highly unethical - especially the blurring of work life and personal life. Darrin clearly felt uncomfortable about it - especially when Larry left him alone with Sheila at the bar. The scene was made worthwhile when Endora showed up dressed as a waitress - and proceeded to dump an entire tray of food into Darrin's lap. The looks on both Darrin and Endora's faces were priceless.

Maybe things were different back then...but couldn't Darrin go through a union or something to air his grievances? He was so hardworking but Larry was so pushy and impossible to please. It's a testament to David White's acting abilities that he brought enough layers to Larry that you didn't despise him. Still, you think Larry would've cut Darrin some slack.

It was the fourth season when "Snob in the Grass" was shown {January 11, 1968}. "If They Never Met" was seen two weeks later {January 25, 1968}.

If not a union, then surely there would have been some place for Darrin to turn to. I can't comment on the legal work ethics or the labor code regarding a show that took place in the late 60's-early 70's. Don't know what they may be. It also depends on the state in which one lives in. I just laugh at how Larry used blackmail tactics, threats and downright unethical methods to get an account or to get Darrin to do something.

Didn't Larry also force Darrin to throw dinner parties at his house? I can't be sure, but I seem to recall an episode where Larry does that. Poor Samantha. Imagine being a housewife, taking care of your child and having to throw a dinner party at the BEHEST OF YOUR HUSBAND'S BOSS.

If I was Samantha, I would have used my powers to find Darrin a better job. Surely there were other architecture firms in that city.
