Will Blue Ray and HD DVD''s phase out your regular DVDS?

Will all the regular dvds u bought in the last 10 years go the way of video cassettes? eventually this has to happen??? I see so many regular DVD prices plummeting.

The difference here is that standard dvds play in my HD player but video cassettes didn't play in my DVD player.

I've picked up a few titles here and there on HD; my "must own movies" (like the Last Samurai) but in general I think the HD/Blu releases have been mediocre at best. How can you try and infuse a new medium with movies like "The Mummy" instead of "Raiders of the Lost Ark" is comical at best. Where's Jurassic Park and Back to the Future? Nah, we really wanted Scooby Doo and the Scorpion King.

I don't see Blu ray's taking over DVD ever, unless the price of the players and discs come down. DVD is sort of in the same boat as VHS, but DVD is more versitile that VHS ever could be, and it's cheaper. I think DVD will be the choice format for many years to come.

I still dont know what Blu Ray is and as long as the dvds come in clear. I am a happy camper

i am there with ya, i dont know what BluRay is either. ive seen them in stores but just figured they were like mini dvds.

I wouldn't be to sure about that. When I started collecting movies on VHS back in the late 80's early 90's I was told that the VHS would last me a lifetime....nothing was better. Well DVDs came out and now they expect me to start over my collection. I don't know if Blue Ray will replace regular DVDs but I gurantee you something will eventually and it always happens sooner than you think.

I'm waiting for the day a TV series is released on Blu-ray. If I had to guess, 24, Lost, or one of those HBO shows will be one of the first ones. Heck, even some classics like I Love Lucy and [modern] classics like Seinfeld might one day be released in HD since they were shot on film, unfortunately though on 4x3 versus 16x9.

because eventually high definition will replace everything, you know in 2 years all stores will only sell hd dvds and then in the next 7 to 10 years your non hd dvds will be dated. technology prevails.

it wasn't too long ago, when there was one aisle of dvds and 8 rows of vhs tapes and people were saying dvds won't overcome vhs tapes. history will repeat itself.
