A few details leaked about Shrek 4! - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

With Shrek the Third now out in theaters, DreamWorks Animation CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg is now setting his sights on the next installment of the company's key franchise.

Mike Mitchell (Sky High, Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo) is in talks to direct the sequel from a script by Tim Sullivan. "Katzenberg insists he always envisioned four chapters in the Shrek tale, and No. 4 will explore the green ogre's origins," the Hollywood Reporter learned during an interview with Katzenberg on Wednesday at the Cannes film festival.

With Shrek becoming a dad in the third film, might it be possible that the fourth one will introduce his father as a way to explain Shrek's origins? Or will it be a straight-up prequel that will introduce a whole new cast of characters to surround Shrek with?

Shrek 4 is tentatively set for a 2010 release.
