Default Irwin Allen's The Night The Bridge Fell Down

I just saw it for the first time and enjoyed it. Yes, the effects were very cheesy but it's every inch an Irwin Allen flick. You have all his fingerprints from the suspenseful music to the heroes and the lunatic villains. Plus get a load of the cast! James MacArthur, Desi Arnaz Jr., Eve Plumb, Leslie Nielsen(!) and my personal favorite, Gregory Sierra.

Despite the fact that Irwin Allen's disaster flicks were almost always very corny, there is always an element of truth. I have a fear of large bodies of water and bridges that are very high above the ground or water, so I was definitely squirming throughout some of the action scenes. It was an enjoyable little flick, in spite of the fact it was shelved for 3 years. When it was finally aired on NBC in February 1983, it was opposite CBS and the final episode of M*A*S*H!! Needless to say, the bridge was creamed in the ratings and faded into oblivion. Has anyone else seen this flick??

I bought my copy, LOL. I really like Irwin Allen's movies they may have been cheesy but it was great because it was before CGI. He was a very inventive talented person.

Yes, it was, although I only had eyes for Gregory Sierra (). Of course, it was fun to see the two of them acting together again after Desi Jr's guest turn on the Brady Bunch.

On a different note, it's creepier to watch it now in light of the recent bridge collapses in Minnesota and there was another one overseas somewhere. When I first heard those stories, I thought of this movie!!

SPOILERS - I was so happy that they didn't kill off Gregory Sierra like in another Irwin Allen flick, Towering Inferno. I liked the character he played here a lot - very sweet, gentle and heroic. SWOON!! Seriously, I wonder why this didn't get the big screen treatment.

Here's something a bit jarring about this flick - Eve actually CUSSES!! She plays a nun here, btw.

As mentioned by the OP, this played opposite the last M*A*S*H.
Here's the thing. Since M*A*S*H ran from 8:30-11pm, NBC decided to run this epic motion picture beginning at 8pm, hoping to get the jump on M*A*S*H. Silly rabbits.

^ Really!! They sure had egg on their faces when the ratings for that night came in.

I couldn't find a pic of Gregory Sierra from this movie, but here is one of him as Carlos the bartender in another Irwin Allen flick, The Towering Inferno.

Don't remember the nun part. I remember her, but not that she was a nun. All I remember is Desi's character was...bad. Idk...on the run or something?

Thank you. I'm sort of kicking myself for...whatever happened to this. I generally don't get rid of stuff fav actors are in.
