When shows went into syndication, they always aired them uncut? So buying the DVDs wouldn't get you scenes put back into the shows.
I probably still would, simply because the DVDs wouldn't have commercial breaks in them and also because tapes can only last so long. The DVDs would last a lot longer, unless I'm careless with the discs, and they get scratched. So if shows were never cut for syndication, would you still collect TV-DVDs? |

Probably so, mainly because my vcr has been known to eat a tape every now & then. So even though you tape shows off tv, it doesn't mean you'll get to keep them. I'd like to get a DVD-recorder one of these days.

I still would. This way, I can watch the show/episode(s) I want when I want.
(Assuming I'm understanding your question correctly-which I think I am.)

No I wouldn't buy the DVD's. In 2006 I got a DVD Recorder and recorded tons of my favorite shows, I think I bought like 5 retail sets. but in 2005 I bought around 30 real sets.
I'll still buy my all-time favorite shows on DVD, but for shows that I don't really care much about, I'll just record them. |

For me, my tv dvds are almost collector's items. I love the whole concept of tv dvds from packaging and artwork to content - so yes even if the episodes were cut, I'd still buy them. I'm not obsessive about missing a minute or two here and there when it comes to my fave shows. Something is better than nothing.

The show better be pretty rare or some disaster better have happened to the original uncut masters before I buy syndicated cuts of it on DVD.

Once I bought all the DVDs of "I Love Lucy" I got not only that (to me) long lost episode, but I got the Christmas one as well as the early pilot episode. That's one thing about reruns, even if they aired the shows uncut in reruns, they still usually skip over the holiday episodes. So you have to wait until it's that time of the year before you can get that particular episode. Since DVDs came out, I've stopped recording shows on TV. I admit, part of me misses it. Part of the fun of having every episode of a show was working for it. I recorded one episode at a time. |
