...she always seemed to have the weekend off. When she worked at Central Perk, Rachel always seemed to be planning a weekend getaway or a trip for the Thanksgiving Day weekend, etc.
In real life, I would think she would have to work at least one weekend day. Some waitresses work both. Yes, I know, it's only a show and it's not reality, but you never heard her complain about having to work the weekend. Hell, I work a Monday-Friday job and even I have to work an occasional Saturday! |

"Friends" seemed to focus more on the groups after work life.
Monica was a chef for a number of seasons, yet she seemed to have oodles of free time. I know a few people who are chefs, and they work nonstop. |

I am not a Friends fan at all. I seen one episode. It was ok. However, I have read enough abt the show to know that the apartments/flats/whatever you call them are quite expensive and no waitress job alone could pay the rent, plus all the fine clothes, plus all the weekends off, etc.

Rachel was the least convincing waitress in the history of TV. Enough said.

Now, as for Joey and Phoebe, they worked in professions where employment was erratic, so I never questioned why they were always around. And Chandler changed jobs a few times, which explained some of his being around. I know, it's not reality, but it's fun to pick your favorite shows apart sometimes. Just fer fun. |

True, but I think the thing that we're forgetting is that Rachel had never worked a day before in her LIFE. She was supposed to be a terrible waitress. Then, after she had learned everything she needed to know, she was STILL a terrible waitress because she just didn't care that much.

Well, she's a waitress, so she probably gets to pick her availability and just says she's not available on weekends. She can still work a 40 hour week to be full-time. That's 8 hours a day M-F and she hangs with her friends because they hangout in the coffee shop a little too much.

Oh yeah! Couldn't you just picture them in New York, especially Vera.
