Wink Your opinion needed about what Bewitched I should buy

I don't own any seasons yet. Ok, my thing is should I buy the black/white series or the color series? Should I wait til the whole box set comes out? That will probably be expensive, huh. Also, I my own feelings I have never cared for Dick Sergant, and I noticed I don't sit thru and episode with DS in it. I'd like to see the extras and the tribute thou. LOL. I don't mean to be diffcult here lol.. I know i'm flip flopin here. Should I just be the individualles? Then in color or black/white? I love watching color to see what the costumes and make up looked like back then. Thou the b&w is nice because that is how it first came out. ugh, Thanks for bearing with me, and your opinions

I agree about DS. I've bought seasons 1 - 4 (first one B&W) and plan to purchase season 5 as it's Dick York's last. After that, I won't purchase any more seasons. Michael

It depends on what you want. For someone that wants all 8 seasons, I'd get the box set. If you don't want the Sargent episodes, I'd buy 1-5 only. I tried getting the b&w versions of the first two seasons but I couldn't find them so I went ahead with the color versions. They turned out really nice though.

No offense to DS, but there was absolutely no chemistry between him and EM. Plus they were recycling plots like crazy during DS's tenure. If you want to see the stories when they were fresh, plus the unmatched romantic chemistry of EM/DY, check out 1-5 for sure!!

I would recommend renting the season sets first before you buy them, just to be sure which ones you really want, if any. Happy viewing!!

A true Bewitched fan would buy all the seasons even if meant the Dick Sargeant years, which I didn't think was that bad. Season 6 was still good, the 7th okay but started to go down hill. By the 8th season you could tell that EM's heart wasn't in the show, she seemed bored.

I would definitely recommend getting the first 2 seasons in B&W. The colorization was done well and the process is leaps and bounds better than it used to be, but the first eps were produced in B&W...

If you don't care for Dick Sargent, then, like others have said, only get the first 5 seasons. Poor dick Sargent! He was a good actor, but had the totally unenviable task of taking over a role that another actor had made his own for several years. And it didn't help any that his personality was nowhere near as animated as Dick York's.

I agree! A purist would buy the first two seasons in B&W. They are available, you just have to look. I finally broke down and bought season one yesterday. I forgot how great the pilot is; the introduction of Samantha as a witch, their marriage and that dinner party with the "real witch," Sheila.

The first two seasons are unmatched as far as romance/comedy/fantasy goes. Once Season 3 started and was broadcast in color - the magic became more and more in the forefront. But the romantic chemistry was still very much in the air as long as DY played Darrin.

I'm done buying the DVDs, now that all the DY episodes are available. I'm just not a fan of the Sargent era. Not necessarily BECAUSE of him, but the plots were being repeated over and over. Things just became more and more wacky, and the show just wasn't the same anymore. That said, I am interested in knowing what the extras will be once the Complete Series is issued. I read an interview with Erin Murphy where she stated she is going to be very involved with the bonus features.

I have Seasons 1 -5, the Dick York era. Besides I've heard rumors, the show jumped the shark with Dick Sargeant. Others, your opinion on this. Since I liked DY better as Darrin, I'm holding of on 6+. Besides,w 1-5 I have all the Aunt Clara ep's., & I just loved that sweet old witch--even THOUGH she sometimes got things really MESSED UP.

I have seasons 1-5 on DVD. Seasons 1 & 2, I bought the colorized versions because the B & W versions were not available where I live. Doesn't matter anyway, since Prime & Dejaview show the colorized version episodes anyway. I plan to get seasons 6-8 when they get released. I'm one of the few who finds both Darrins funny in their own way.

Start off with the first season, whichever format you like. Then build your collection gradually.

Aunt Clara was such a sweetie...things went downhill in a hurry after Marion Lorne passed, and then Dick York had to leave for health reasons. The magic really went with them.

I'd eventually like to get the first 5 seasons, but like others, don't know if I'd buy the later ones. There's not really a single episode from those seasons that I recall liking.

Same here - that's when the house was redone with disgusting shag carpet and other 70s decor. I think the new look of the house turned me off as much as anything during the Sargent era.
