Funniest facial expressions on TV - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

Bewitched had some of the funniest faces on TV! Dick York especially had the big eyes that would bug out and with his rubbery face could make people laugh without saying a word. Alice Pearce and Marion Lorne also had funny facial expressions and killer timing. I read a review that likened all three actors to "human cartoon characters", in a positive way!!

Over at Barney Miller, Hal Linden had very funny double takes and expressions as he was reacting to other characters on the show. Abe Vigoda and Jack Soo were the definition of deadpan, and so is David Hyde Pierce of Frasier.

Those are all the ones that I can think of at the moment. Who did I miss?

I loved Jack Soo also.

Carroll O'Connor was a classic as was "Ross" and "Chandler" on Friends.

I would have to say Bea Arthur. Have you seen some of the looks Dorothy gives Rose on The Golden Girls?! They're perfect, and a lot of times, she doesn't even have to say a word! I'm also surprised no one's mentioned Dick Van Dyke, he had some great physical comedy as well as facial expressions.

Bea Arthur had some pretty funny facial expressions on Maude as well. She could deliver a put down without even having to say a word!!

Jon Volstead and Tony Papenfuss (Darryl and Darryl ) on "Newhart" who never spoke a word until the final episode were absolute masters at communicating through facial expressions and hand gestures!

Nick Yamana, Archie Bunker, Edith Bunker, Al Bundy, Mike Stivic, Maude, Dorothy Potrillo, Howard Cunningham, George Lopez, Brian Hackett, Lucy Ricardo, Rob Petrie, Jethro Bodine, Ginger Grant, Lamont Sanford.....to name some.

The characters I've named--they are way different from each other, but one thing they all have in common is how expressive they are in their facial features, escpecially their reactions to what they see and hear.

I'd also like to add: Ralph Kramden, Jack Tripper, Chandler Bing and Cosmo Kramer

I always thought Scott Baio had very funny expressions...when his eyes are wide and his face goes blank when he is upset(CIC, Happy Days). I always laugh when he laughs, too, not to mention his goofy smile...it is just so funny. Looks exactly like an anime...I tell you.

I'll have to nominate Larry Appleton on Perfect Strangers. He was HILARIOUS when he was uptight!

Larry! I can't believe I forgot to put him on my list. I remember the look on his face, and Balki's for that matter, whenever Larry announced that he 'had a plan'. The looks on both their faces forbode a non-verbal 'Oh oh, look out!'
