I just called MPI and asked them about Volume 2 of The Color Honeymooners. The guy who I spoke too claims they will come out with Volume 2 by the end of the year.
I hope this is true. |

I wonder how many volumes they think they can stretch it out to? At $40.00 a set, they'll make a killing!

I'm guessing that it has to do with MPI being a smaller company and that unlike CBS/ Paramount, it does not own the material, but pays a licensing fee. Truthfully, I'm not too upset with the price as the shows are being presented uncut, with the original credits and opening production number. If they were the edits being shown on American Life, I'd be disappointed. That said, I'd welcome the next set. Good news! |

I think of the cost of a set divided by the number of shows, in figuring out how they're worth, and by that formula they're on the level. But I order via Amazon in any case, and when I see it there, I'll order the second set first thing pronto.
My bet is there'll be about five sets total by the end. Remember that in the case of Benny Hill's 1969-1989 Thames shows, A&E Video put out a total of 6 sets, with the first 11 shows in the first set; 10 in the second; another 10 in the third; the same number in the fourth; 9 in the fifth and 8 in the final set. They went by years, and early on I figured it'd work out that way. The only question, of course, is when they get to the 1968-69 series of "short" episodes, how they'll be packaged. But as to how many episodes on a disc on these color shows: Remember, we're talking less than an hour, as opposed to the half-hour 39. (Or to put it this way: 1-hour color show = 2 half-hour B&W "Classic 39" shows, in terms of time.) And trying to balance out picture quality with how much can be stuffed without it ending up looking like something out of YouTube. |
