Default When Ethel Was a Snob

Ethel is my favorite character, but the only time she made me mad was her attitude in the LDCH episode, "The Celebrity Next Door," when Lucy asked her to pose as a maid for her dinner party with Tallulah Bankhead.

Lucy: "Somehow Tallulah Bankhead got the idea that I have help."

Ethel: "If you've got the gall to ask us to be your maid and butler, you're gonna need help!"

Ethel must have forgotten that Lucy bailed her out by acting as her maid to impress the visiting Barney Kurtz in "I Love Lucy."

I think Ethel was just tired of Lucy's scheming and all that. But atleast in the end she acted as Lucy's maid.

I was going to say that very thing. Ethel and at times Fred, were always pawns in Lucy's schemes, therefore, even though Lucy did act like a maid in that Kurtz episode, the Mertzes sure did a lot more things for Lucy.

BTW, in the Kurtz episode, Ethel does tell Lucy all the times she has helped Lucy out when Lucy needed Ethel.

I agree. Ethel helped Lucy out hundreds of times and Lucy treated her like crap. I was just surprised when Ethel was shocked at being a maid since she asked Lucy to do the very same thing. I thought she would have understood about that favor.

That ep with lucy as maid was so many years ago. Maybe Ethel forgot.

I'm glad Ethel isn't a snob.

I don't think Ethel was a snob, she was probably tired of being dragged into Lucy's crazy schemes. Ethel probably wanted to meet Tallulah herself and couldn't by posing as a maid.
