I was wondering how everyone feels about sharing your food?
Last night we went out to eat with my husbands aunt & her boyfriend. And my husband got fish, slaw, hushpuppies & fries. I got the steak, baked potatoe & salad. I gave my husband a couple of pieces of the steak & half of my salad and he gave me two hushpuppies. His aunt said it was bad manners to do this. But we didn't see any problem with it, since we've been doing it for years. Does anyone else share their food? |

Absolutely not. With me, anyway. _I_ want to eat MY food, so hands off MY food. The only time I will share my food is if I am DONE and do not want to eat it anymore, and the other person is still hungry. Only then will I offer my food to the other person.
It irks me a lot when people ask me for something on MY plate WHILE I AM EATING IT. We don't do that at home, so why would we do that in a restaurant? |

I worked at my Grandparent's seafood restaurant for 15 years and we never had a problem with it. I don't think it's bad manners because our belief was once you order the food, It's yours to do with as you please. When people called in to-go orders we knew that sharing would happen so we saw no difference in that than eating inside.
Most buffet type places don't allow sharing and I can understand that where adults are concerned but I did witness a waitress in a chinese restaurant jump all over a girl because she gave her 3-year old son a few bites from her plate. |

I was typing my first reply while the other comments were being posted. I would agree that it is bad manners for one adult to ask another for food but offering it to someone is different.

i see no problem with it...how is it bad manners? if its ok with the person eating i see no problem.
asking for it is bad manners but offering, or planning to split it with someone, is fine. |

I don't think it's bad manners but I rarely do . Everybody has a chance to order what they want anyhow.

I don't think it is. I share food all the time with my friends & family.

I don't do it often, but I don't think it's bad manners. I'm just one of those people who likes their own dinner. My husband and I often share a dessert though, especially the oversized ones. I get a tea, he gets a Spanish coffee, and one dessert with two forks (or spoons).
