Default Redd Foxx only 50 in the first season

He was born in December 1922 which would make him only 49 in the pilot, and in the first episodes of season 1 too! I thought he looked older than that....perhaps they made him look older somehow to play Fred, who was 64 in 1972....

He did look older than 49 in the pilot. All that hair and gray made him look older than he was.

yeah, I was surprised to see that he was born in 1922, "Fred" was supposedly born in 1908....which means he would be 99 years old now!
But whats even more interesting is in the ep with "Honest Al", and his associate "Honest Hank".....
The reason why they wouldn't sell Fred a stereo on credit was because Fred was too old....but they had already sold one to Esther because (quote)"she's not old..." It so happens that in real life ....Lawanda Page was more than two years OLDER than Redd Foxx.....

I think it was the gray hair and the way Redd Foxx walked that gave him the appearance of being older. If you look at his face early on in the series, he doesn't have a lot of wrinkles, and looks about his true age. I think he was a sexy looking guy. I really do, lol.

Why would my post make you sick? Do you think Redd Foxx was repulsive? The guy had a lot of wives in real life, and was quite the ladies man, I've read. He looked nice in a tux. Had a real nice look about him, in my opinion anyway.

I was shocked when I found out he was only 49 when Sanford and Son first started. They really did a good job at making him look like an old man, he looked about 70 years old with all that grey hair and everything.

Often times, it's a person's way that makes them appealing to me. I may not think that they're sexy at first. In the case of Redd Foxx, he was very funny which I find very attractive. He had this cool cat way away about him too. Not really so much his Fred Sanford character, but Redd Foxx himself. If I really like a person, on tv or in real life, they become good looking to me. It's hard to explain. I'm the one who finds Drew Carey cute, lol.

Fred definately had a "cuteness" about him. Even when he was ornery about something he was endearing. Sometimes he'd act innocent with that "Who, me?" look. He was a likeable character all right, imo.
