Default Did Fred & Ethel ever kiss on the lips?

I know the constant off stage feud with Vivian and William put alot of friction between them but they were professional actors and I just wonder if the two refused to kiss or if the writers never bothered to write it in. When it comes to acting, no matter how much you hate your on screen husband, you're supposed to show love and affection.

I've never seen Fred lay one on Ethel or vice versa. Not even when they acted all lovey dovey. I remember an episode where the boys were put in jail and the girls kissed their husbands but Ethel kissed the air instead. LOL! I also remember the Christmas episode where Ethel held mistletoe over her head and Fred like hugged her and that was it.

Am I missing an ep? Did the two actually share a kiss while on ILL? I think it would've been nice to show there was some sort of spice in their marriage.

Why would you even think of that??

Now you've got me wondering if they did the nasty! And I don't wanna picture Fred Mertz doing that!!

Thanks for ruining my Sunday.

I haven't seen every episode, but I've seen a lot. I personally never saw them kiss on the lips. It's too bad they didn't like each other. It would have made for a more pleasant working experience for the both of them as opposed to having all that tension.

Maybe she put a no-kissing clause in her contract.

Fred and Ethel usually gave a peck on the cheek or just pressed their cheeks together.

In "Fred and Ethel Fight," they may have touched lips for a brief second after they were trapped together in the coat and they made up. The camera cut at the kiss, but they may have touched.

That is the only one I can think of besides the near miss in the jail.

The only "spice" in their marriage was quarreling.

Yea, that's what I meant Janice took the words right out of my mouth!

And I guess Fred and Ethel did do the nasty because twice Fred thought Ethel was pregnant and the only way to think she's pregnant is that if they...uh...ya know.....

Thanks for that lovely visual. Yuck!

I wouldn't be surprised if VV and WF both had something in their contracts about as little physical contact as possible. Knowing how much they disliked each other, it wouldn't be a surprise. Yes, it is a shame they did not resolve their differences.

I read in some book that Vivian Vance also hated the fact that William Frawley was about 20 years older than her. She felt it made her look old and dowdy.

Ethel was shown kissing Fred on the lips once and only once. But it wasn't in an "I Love Lucy" episode, it was on a Bob Hope show in 1956. Of course, there were some role changes for the guys. While Lucy was playing Lucy and Vivian was playing Ethel, Bob Hope was playing the part of Ricky Ricardo, and Desi was playing Fred. William Frawley wasn't on the show at all. So with Desi playing the part of Fred, Vivian (as Ethel) for once had no problem kissing Fred on the lips.

I thought it was pretty awkward. BTW, Bill Frawley was in that sketch. He played the sea captain Lucy allowed to stay in Fred & Ethel's appartment.

Oh yeah, you're right. I forgot about that. I would love to have been a fly on the wall when they started rehearsing that script and it became obvious Vivian was going to kiss Desi (Fred) on the lips, after all those occasions she could have easily done the same thing with Bill Frawley but chose not to.

Lucy's face.

Lucy was probably thinking "Alright Viv and Desi that's enough! We only agreed on a peck. Geez!"

Well, it seems that my question has been answered.

Fred and Ethel did indeed share a kiss not once but twice!

"Fred and Ethel Fight"

and

"Mertz and Kurtz"

Don't they look cute? Awwww...but heaven knows what was going on in their minds.

I know one episode where Fred thought Ethel was pregnant. It was the episode where Lucy and Ethel thought their husbands had been drafted, but what was the other episode where he thought she was pregnant?
