Default Car mishaps

A couple of months after I got my license, I took too sharp a turn pulling into a parking space and dinged the bumper on a lightpost. It cost me $350 to fix it.

Last year I had a coupon for a free car wash. I forgot to put down the antenna and it came clean off. I felt like such a moron. That cost me about $100 something to replace.

My son backed my Olds Cutlass out of the garage and scraped & dented the right fender. I haven't gotten it fixed yet. Its no telling what it will cost because they'll have to repaint the whole car so it will match up.

This past March I took the turn onto my road, and thinking it wasnt icy since it wasnt too bad that day, I didnt turn as slow. Next thing I know I lose control and drive into 5 mailboxes, taking a few down and messing up the posts. I tried walking home at 3am, but the road was a sheet of ice. I called home and had my mother pick me up. It was $4000, which insurance covered. New windshield, sunroof, rims, reaview mirror, door was dented.. scratches and dents EVERYWHERE.

That was my first and only real accident, aside from running into curves, getting flat tires.. small stuff like that.

Ran into a parked car in a parking lot on a snowy day. Misjudgment.

Blew a tire going 75 on the interstate.

Backed into the snowblower.

Been driving for 4 years and had my first accident Wednesday. Was too tired to be driving thought the light was green turning yellow so went through an intersection when I actually "ran a red" smashed into this guys car. Totalled the front end of my 2006 Lincoln Town Car

And banged up my right knee pretty bad, got a minor concussion, and smashed up my mouth a bit.

Waiting for estimates to get it repaired.

When I was 18, I took down a parking meter and ripped off the car door as well. I was parking and backing into a space. My friend thought I was all set, and she opened the door. I backed into the meter with the door. Those suckers fold.

Well, for our road they keep all the mailboxes at the end of the road on a long post, so its not like I went from house to house, running into mailboxes lol. Instead I took them all down at once and landed in a ditch. GOOD TIMES.

I don't drive, so no stories involving me driving... I do have several:

- I was a passenger in the car one cold, icy, wintry night in about 1996 or 1997. My mom had slowed down to turn off into a parking lot, and someone came along and sideswiped us. It was nothing too major- the car got dented, but just barely.

- One cold, icy autum night in late 1997, my mom asked her boyfriend (at the time) to drive, as she was in no condition to drive and he was sober. He agreed, and they started for home. He was getting ready to turn a corner, and drove across a particularly slippery patch of black ice. That caused my mom's car to swerve out of control, and they collided head-on with a tree. That was the only time my mom got pretty injured, and she didn't have that many injuries. She suffered a fractured arm, bruises from her seatbelt and scratches up the wazoo from the airbags. Car was totalled, too.

- This was after I moved back down here in mid-2003. This happened in late 2003... My mom was by herself, driving back into the town we had just moved away from, to go pick up our pets (due to some circumstances, we had to leave them behind for a little while with one of her friends). Some animal darted out on the road- rabbit, badger or whatever, and my mom swerved to try to avoid running over the animal. She should just have run it over instead, because that caused her to lose control of her car, go swerving off the road, roll over once and then her car ended up partially in a nearby lake. VERY luckily, she was wearing her seatbelt and did not suffer any serious injuries (just major bruises from her belt). Car = totalled. The passenger side of her car was pretty much gone, while the driver side remained unscratched. It was very fortunate that I was not with her that day, because I could have been seriously hurt.

- I wasn't with her, but my sister told me about this. She was living near downtown Minneapolis at the time (February 2006), and there are a lot of pretty bad drivers there. She was driving through downtown Minneapolis one day to get to work... she had right of way, being the light was green on her side. Some asshat decided to run a red light on HIS side, AND T-bone her good and hard. Luckily, she didn't suffer any serious injuries, but her car = totalled by the asshat.
