Well, season 4 was not as good as seasons 1-3 but it is much better then season 5 and I still enjoyed it. I found season 5 to be kind of off it's game, no doubt to the loss of Phil, but still better then alot of other shows.

Season 4 is an acquired taste. However, it's my favorite season of the show. According to the commentaries, it's the cast and crew's favorite season as well. I'd say seasons 1 and 2 were more mainstream, while season 3 was still kind of mainstream, but was changing over to cult comedy. Season 4 dropped the mainstream and just became a cult comedy.

You hit the nail on the head. Season 4 had a certain humour to it that not everyone liked or got. I still found it funny but I enjoyed season 1-3 more, but that's just my opinion. Season 4 was also the first time they tried to use a story arc. I'm not sure if that was really the best direction for this show to go in, but I guess with the ratings slipping at the time they figured, what do they have to lose. The season still produced many funny episodes. My favorites were: French Diplmacy, Pure Evil, Who's the Boss?, Who's the Boss? Part 2, and Copy Machine. |

Season 4 was good but not as good as the first 3 seasons. But Season 4 is alot better than Season 5.
Season 5 was awful. The writing was atrocious and boring. Character(s) turned to 180 degree, which was atrocious and disrespected loyal fan(s). I can't blame any of the actors for this. They did everything they could with the crap they were given. There are few problems I had with Season 4. I didn't like how Lisa and Dave broken up and that they never went back together again at the end of the season or that they could still be involved in a sexual relationship at the end of the season. I really didn't like Walt's character that much. He was just a boring character and he was just there. One episode where Lisa and Matthew went out on a date. I really don't see what the writers were trying to do there. I did like how Bill cares for Dave trying to get him and Lisa back together again. There are episodes that I like: The Public Domain, Pure Evil, Big Brother, and Who's the Boss Part 1 and Part 2. |
