Default Gilmore Girls Officially Cancelled

Say goodbye to "Gilmore Girls."
After weeks of talks aimed at bringing the show back for a limited run next season, the CW and Warner Bros. TV have decided to wrap production on the quirky dramedy that focused on fast-talking femmes. Skein, now in its seventh season, will air its final episode May 15.

"Gilmore" was a holdover from the now-defunct WB network. Debuting in 2000, it quickly became one of the Frog's signature skeins, with crix eating up the witty banter between mom Lorelai (Lauren Graham) and her daughter Rory (Alexis Bledel). Series was set in the fictional hamlet of Stars Hollow, CT.

CW and WBTV released a joint statement noting the passing Thursday morning.

"Announcing the final season of 'Gilmore Girls' is truly a sad moment for everyone at The CW and Warner Bros. Television," statement read. "This series helped define a network and created a fantastic, storybook world featuring some of television's most memorable, lovable characters."

David Rosenthal exec produced and served as showrunner on the current season of "Gilmore," which was created by Amy Sherman-Palladino. WBTV and CW thanked the producers and cast for their work, as well as crix who supported the show with glowing reviews.

"(We) promise to give this series the send off it deserves," statement said.

That's sad. But it's a great show and it had a long run. Hopefully it will live on in syndication.

Well I hope they can wrap things up in the few episodes they have left.

Article from Ausiello:

In the end, they just couldn't strike a deal.

That, in a nutshell, is the reason Gilmore Girls isn't returning for an eighth season.

Multiple sources confirm that Warner Bros. recently made one final offer to Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel that included sizeable salary bumps for both in exchange for a shortened 13-episode season. As is now obvious, that offer was rejected.

The good news? The May 15 finale was meant to serve as either a series or season finale. And having just read the script, I can assure you that it is an extremely satisfying conclusion to the series. As I previously teased, it brings Gilmore full circle.

The official statement is below.

"Announcing the final season of Gilmore Girls is truly a sad moment for everyone at The CW and Warner Bros. Television. This series helped define a network and created a fantastic, storybook world featuring some of television's most memorable, lovable characters. We thank Amy Sherman-Palladino, Dan Palladino, Dave Rosenthal, the amazing cast led by Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel as well as the producers, writers and crew for giving us this delightful gem for the past seven years. We would also like to thank the critics and Gilmore fans for their passionate support and promise to give this series the send off it deserves."

Much more to come.

It is sad but it's better to leave now then to last longer than you should. At least it looks like they will have a propper season finale.

Aw it's so sad thinking that in just a couple weeks our beloved show will be over forever. We all tried so hard voting to keep this show giong and there for a while the producers thought maybe the cast was going to make a deal for another season but I guess things changed but atleast we tried. I just hope they get Luke and Lorelai back together by the finally that's all I ask for. I am really going to miss this show since it was one of the last fun, witty, innocent type family shows on tv. Tv just isn't going to be the same anymore with out our Gilmore Girls . Here is a great tribute to our favorite Lorelai's http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8gUHLrwro2g

As I said before, I am looking forward to seeing how they wrap things up.

Sadly, we will probably not see Luke and Lorelai get married and start a family, and Rory's future hangs in the balance as of now, but the best series finales always leave you on a positive note...

I'm sure everything will work out in Stars Hollow.

But..what's going to happen to Kirk and Lulu?

That is sad but I'm pretty sure that the show will still be on just old reruns sadly......I've been watching this show for almost half of my life...now what...not like I'm the only one but it is still really sad.

So, will this just be a typical hour show? I can't see them rapping up everything in one hour.

Unfortunately it will be just an hour show. The other day when Lauren was on Ellen she said that they didn't know the show was cancelled when they shot the last episode and so she was a little bummed that they didn't get to do an ending where the cast would sit around and reminisce about the show like friends and Frasier did but she did say it was a nice episode for a finale show. You know what I think they should do, I think when they do the season 7 DVD as a feature they should have the cast talk about why they loved working on the show Gilmore girls and just reminisce since they aren't doing that along with the finale episode

Final DVD release, they should have a retrospective of every town meeting over the seven years. Also, I think they should do a second volume of the soundtrack
