Default Alice and Flo's friendship in the early years

It seemed like in the first two and a half seasons that Linda Lavin and Polly Holliday enjoyed their acting together as Alice and Flo. You can see the chemistry there. When Linda began to feel threatened by Polly's presence on the show you can tell on screen the tension there especially in Polly's final season. Look at the way Linda interacted with Polly on camera that season compared to the early years. A big difference. The show was never the same after Polly left. Flo rocked.

I don't remember much about this show, but I will certainly check that out.

You could really sense the tension in the episode "Cabin Fever". I'm not sure if Polly Holiday was acting irritated or if she just was. She didn't act anything like Flo did in the first two seasons.

I agree! Flo totally rocked! It is unfortunate that Linda Lavin probably became envious/jealous of Polly (Flo) and most likely caused her to leave the show "Alice."

I love that silly show! I loved it when I was a little kid, and I still love it now! I'm so glad it's on television weeknights.

Polly Holliday left Alice to do her own spinoff Flo. Flo did not do very well lasted a season and a half. Polly did not want to go back to Alice and I believe because of the whole thing with Linda Lavin.

Of course, it wouldn't have made much sense for someone to move back home to Texas, and then move back to Arizona, just for a waitress job

There have been characters who have been spunoff and didn't work but they still were able to come back to the show. Mary Tyler Moore assurred Valerie Harper if her spinoff, Rhoda, did not work.

Polly did not want no more dealings with Linda just look at those episodes in the fourth season before leaving for her own series. She had a pissed off attitude in her and it was too bad. Alice had the potential of going down as a classic. The third season the show hit its stride.
