Default Rush - the musical Gods continue. 18th CD

First, I know that a lot of people don’t “get” RUSH. It takes time to like…and learn. But once you get it, it’s that much better….even for them. That’s why they’re still going; and the fans.(They’re #4 in most Gold recordings ever)

On May 1st, their 18th gold recording comes out. I like to put it that way because the fan base doesn’t go away: they’ll buy the CD, and like it - eventually.

XM Radio is playing a song and interview clips at the top of every hr today (repeating Sat.) If you have directv, you may get some of these stations: [Boneyard, Deep Tracks, and The Verge] http://www.xmradio.com/onxm/features/rushhours.xmc

I bought the new Rush CD Snakes and Arrows this morning and I love it. I think that it is one of their best and I like it a lot more then Vapor Trails from back in 2002.

Cool

RUSH RULES!!!! All I need now is to get a ticket for their concert this summer at White River Ampitheater just up the street from me and I'll be set!!!

What's there to "get" about Rush?? I've been a fan of theirs for thirty years now!! They're great musicians and Neil Peart is one of rock's greatest lyricists!! They're intelligent, but they make sense when you listen to them.

FerGawshsakes, put down that Limp Bizkit album!!! Pick up the new album by Rush!!! Pick up ANY album by Rush!!! Power Windows is a good one for starters.

Aren't there songs you don't like until 3 listens?
Have you tried to get someone into Rush?
Did it work?

I hated "Between the Wheels" the 1st time. It's one of my favorites now.

I disagree. Rush got really "artistic" on this. It's real tough to grasp(for me at least. Presto was instant! "Tom Sawyer" is easy to get. that's why it's so popular.

I'm enjoying tuning in to a 5 min Rush interview and song on the TV every hour. Tip: When Segment 20 re-airs May 5 at 7AM ET, listen through “Witch Hunt”. After it, Alex tells the story behind the “crowd” at the start of the song. It’s great.

Actually, when I said, "for starters", I wasn't really serious about "starting" with that album, I guess I was just saying that for, I dunno, it's a good example of their music, but really, I couldn't say which album is the best, because they're all so good! Okay, some people have issues over Presto and Vapor Trails, but I don't think they're that bad. Presto was more of an album that was done when they were trying to re-orient themselves toward being more guitar-based after having spent nearly a decade being driven by synths. Vapor Trails was when the band was beginning to find their musical voice again after Neil Peart's devastating losses five years earlier when his daughter, and then his wife, both died.

I must be weird, I still favour "2112". I think more because I used it in Theatre Arts in high school for a play which if I do say so myself, was fantastic. I just get "lost" in that album everytime I play it.

btw Pie, I've been meaning to PM you about the article link re: Geddy's family history and the Holocost. Thanks so much for that. I never knew his mom went through all she did. I'll have to mention it if I run into him again (although I'm sure that won't be for months with the tour and all, but hopefully when they hit TO). You DO know your Rush alright!!

Hi, where did I post that link? I was trying to find that just now, I thought I did it on the other thread. Or did I post it on your Happy Birthday thread?

The XM hourly clips are repeating today. They're altering the channels the clips were on so I'm recording the ones I couldn't get Tues. - Last night I got Rush putting down the music industry(hall of fame) in SP quality.

You see, theyre not in the Hall of fame.... I think that's just as well. Fame isn't there job...they write incredable music.

The Rush CD is #3 on Amazon.com
#4 is Alison Krauss
#7 is Norah Jones

CONGRATULATIONS TO RUSH BEING #3!!! See, it's all about MUSIC, not Britney-hype or any of that nonsense!!!!

I wouldn't care if Rush never got in to the Rock and Roll Hall of Shame--err, Fame. I really wouldn't want them to, Rush has always about living up to their own expectations, their terms, and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has been about hype. Even if many big names have been inducted, it treats rock and roll as if it's this nice relic that's achieved "respectability". It's never about the ability of music, even if it's been done decades ago, to change and affect people, to be cutting edge and rock the boat. I can understand Black Sabbath giving in and allowing themselves to be inducted after all this time, though they never were really comfortable with that move. I respect them more for not wanting to be a part of it even though they did get in, with reservations. But what's this about Angus Young of AC/DC thinking he had to cut his hair when he found out they were going to be inducted?? THAT'S NOT ROCK AND ROLL, that's thinking the one-time irreverent bad boys of rock and roll had to strain for "respectability".

This afternoon I bought my ticket to see the Rush concert in Chicago on September 8th. I can't wait! This will be my sixth Rush concert. I love Snakes and Arrows so I hope they play plenty of songs off of it.
