Red face Another BUTCHER job by Ion!

In the episode, One Night to Remember, they cut out the entire scene where Alice and Flo make over a dreary Vera. I have to admit, Vera didn't look half bad.

That was an important scene. Didn't they show it at the end when the credits were being shown?

If they cut out those long ass commercials, it wouldn't be necessary to chop out those scenes. I timed one episode and it was an average 22 mins. or so. Back in the days, it seemed to run that long, so why do they cut out so much?

Yeah, LOL why show the closing credits with scenes that you cut out??? It is almost as if I am watching a half of a show.

As I watch each episode, I don't blame Solomon for NOT WANTING to record it. If I was recording this program, I would be pissed because I wouldn't know when to hit PAUSE. Those commercials come on at the weirdest moments.

Yeah I know, you see something like Mel talking in the kitchen and in mid sentence, it goes to a commercial and when the show comes back, they are usually at Alice's apartment.

Yeah, exactly! That's what happened yesterday. They went from the middle of something and then BOOM, Alice's place.

Exactly! And the funny thing is, they cut out a big part of the show that leads up to why they are back at the apartment.

If I was a new viewer to Alice, I would be soooooo damn confused. I would be looking at the credits and saying, "What the hell IS THAT SCENE?"

Well, when a show that originally ran 25 minutes now runs 22 minutes, something's gotta give It happens on other shows too. Sometimes a guests only scene will be removed, but they'll still be on the closing credits. (I'm not speaking specifically for Alice...I know of at least two other shows I've seen this happen on). One (Friends) even had replacement credits for the end, rather than the closing scene, and credited an actress that only was on the removed closing scene...you'd think they would have caught that one.

I hear ya Bri - it's getting ridiculous!

TVLand Canada runs Mary Tyler Moore daily, and I can't believe how chopped up it is. They'll be right in the middle of scene - mid-sentence and WHAM - chop to next scene. You can't tell me these are "damaged" tapes where they've had to edit.

Or they'll chop scenes and go to commercials where its the same damned commerical for the fourth time in a half hour period. We GET it already guys - just leave our classic shows intact!!!!

Yea,

Years ago, I read that Canadian TV did not censor their material. It's gotten almost as bad as in the States.

Well I think we are still a little more liberal than in the U.S., (the only time I see something censored is when it comes from a network feed) but moreso in radio than television - hell, you can get away with just about ANYTHING on radio up here.

I don't think it's so much as censorship, but just chopping syndicated shows to work in a few more commercials. We're bombarded enough - especially the internet - leave our t.v.'s alone!

I don't know why everyone is so up in arms over ION trimming these episodes? I don't think any syndicated shows have ever been shown without having material cut from them (unless the show was produced after about 1996).

When Alice originally ran in syndication in the early 80s, the shows were chopped.
