They did pull the plug without warning. Such a shame, considering there was no finale.

i agree...there should of been a farewell or something...not necessarily for us but for the actors who committed themselves to the show.

but to stay on topic...I think if there was a 12th season, I believe that Lionel and Jenny would of reconcile and they are expecting a second child. It will be like season 6 all over again.

Can't remember where I read or heard this (it's more than one source) but the reason they had Lionel and Jenny divorce was that Mike Evans did not want to be on the show at all and Berlinda Tolbert wanted to appear occassionally like she did in years 8 and 9. If there had been a season 12 Jenny and Jessica would have shown up occassionally, but I wonder if Marla Gibbs would have held off starting up 227? If CBS had left the show on Sunday nights there probably would have been a 12th year.

i Think If Cbs Offered a Big Raise like 700,000 an episode Marla Gibbs probably would have stayed.

I never thought of how much they got paid to do an episode..but 700,000...wow...do actors really get paid that much to do an episode on a sitcom?

Here is my episode guide for Season 12; let me know what you think

Season Premiere

12-1 Makin it (part 1)
Florence goes to Florida to visit old friends. While in Florida, things go heywire at the apartment. Louise is sick and George tries to cook and clean nearly destroying the place. While in Florida, Florence considers following her passion to study hospitality. While George and Louise want her to stay; they encourage her to follow her passion. Helen and Tom consider moving into a house.

12-2 Makin it (part 2)

While making plans, she realizes that she has used up all her savings over the years without keeping tabs. Reluctant to ask the Jeffersons for money, Florence tries make it on her own from dancing to singing and even asking her old friends. When all else fails, she calls George who decides to pay her full tuition as a thank you for all the years of hard work. Throughout the show, George and Louise remember various moments with Florence (flash backs). Last episode for Marla Gibbs.

12-3 The Bunkers are back

George and Louise decide to go back to their old neighborhood. Louise is saddened to hear about Edith's death. George and Archie confront each other like old times sake. While the two brag about how well their businesses are doing; little do they know that their new locations they plan on opening will be next door to each other. Helen and Tom continue house hunting and consider moving out of state.

12-4 This house is not big enough for two incomes

Tom and Helen find a house they really like in Washington DC; however it is out of their price range. Helen gets a job at a department store behind Tom's back to help with the money. Louise who runs into Helen at the store thinks that Helen is a regular customer until her boss comes out demanding she get back to work. Louise gets worried as she thinks the Willis' have money problems.

12-5 Louise gets robbed

Working late at the help center, a troubled teen who Louise used to help robs her at gunpoint. The teen takes her wedding ring and other valuables. She hides it from George until he hears about it from Ralph. When George confronts her about it and wants to have the teen arrested, Louise defends him out of pity. The teen apologizes and states he did it for gang initation. Everyone talks to him about the danger of gangs and once he realizes the consequences, he decides to leave the gang. Unfortunately, the kid on his way back to give Louise the money and jewelry he is shot several times

12-6 The new daddy

12-7 Lionel Returns

Lionel returns to announce that he is moving out of the country. He wants to take Jessica with him and Jessica wants to go. Jenny wants Jessica to stay with her in the US and finish up the school where she is currently at.

12-8 Jessica has a decision to make

Jessica has to make a decision between staying with her mother in the US or her father in Puerto Rico. She asks George for his help and he tells her to do what is the best for her. She decides to try Puerto Rico. Jenny's new man proposes to her and she accepts.

12-9 The Office (backdoor pilot)

The staff at the Jefferson Cleaners are hard at work. George puts them to the test when he announces he and Louise are going on vacation for a week.

12-10 The Big Decision

Jenny's big has arrived again and any and everything goes wrong. She wonders if she is making a big mistake. Lionel talks with her and they reflect on old times (another flash back episode). While looking back, they admitted they still do have feelings for each other.

12-11 TBD

12-12 TBD

12-13 TBD

I'll finish the rest later on. Obviously with such an old show, CBS probably would have only did a 13 episode order for the series to tie up loose ends.

The did a play called the Jeffersons on Stage to have the series finale that they never got to have.

Having a play is basically the same thing as a TV episode because they actors simply act out a play in front of cameras for a sitcom episode.

There must be someone here who saw it who could tell us what happened?

It would be even better if someone snuck in a video camera and actually taped it so it would be like a lost episode of the Jeffersons!

A series finale would have centred on Lionel getting a new wife, Florence getting married, George and Louise moving to a taller apartment building or a townhouse.

They probably wouldn't have done anything with the Florence character since her spinoff failed.

It would have been nice to have seen that finale or another season. I do wonder if Marla Gibbs had the 227 project in the works while "The Jeffersons" was up in the air for renewal.

It sure looks that way because 227 was on the fall 1985 schedule on NBC- I think the minute CBS moved the show to Tues Marla Gibbs started making plans to get 227 started. I don't know what kinds of contracts the actors had and when they expired, but perhaps her contract was up in 1985 and she was going to leave anyway. It seems that all of the supporting actors' contracts expired in 1981 (Paul Benedict and Mike Evans left, Berlinda Tolbert is demoted to guest and Marla Gibbs was spun off into a different show). I would guess that they signed new contracts every other year after the 5th season. If she had left the show would have probably gone under regardless.

It would have been nice had they done about six eps for the next season and just wrapped things up. All in the family/Archie Bunker's Place did not get a proper finale in 1983, Good Times' was rushed and the Jefferesons' last ep had George and Tom chasing their grandaughter around the living room and other girl scout troops.
