Any editing done on Ion? - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

Hey guys,

My first post here! I found out about the Ion reruns by the 5th episode several weeks ago. I just wanted to know, is anything cut out of any of the episodes for whatever reason? Like, the episode they aired recently about the annual barbeque the Coopers have in the summer seemed to be missing the flashback Kevin had where you see Brian Cooper on a "home movie" of last year's barbeque and everyone was having fun with him. I didn't see that on Ion's airing, unless I missed it (I record the show and I don't always watch too closely while recording).

Have all the scenes been left intact so far, or are there missing parts?

Every show on syndication will be edited, though different channels will edit different things. The Wonder Years should be no different.

^ Exactly!!! I'm so happy that it is on tv so that I can see it because I'm 16 so I was only 2 when it ended.

The other day I watched "Summer Song" (where the Arnolds go to Ocean City), and they left out the segment in the drive down where they play the alphabet game. Norma said, "There's A in Danville ..." and I forget the rest. You didn't see Wayne hit Kevin each time they crossed the line (whatever that was ... state line?), either.

I just saw "Mom Wars" (where Norma prevents Kevin from playing football with his friends), and they played an instrumental version of the Beatles' "Your Mother Should Know" at the beginning. (Didn't they play the Beatles' original version in 1989 when it first aired?)

Whatever ION is editing out of the episodes, I can't say that I notice it.

It has been a long time since I've seen them and they have not been shown in syndication on a regular basis around where I live, so I have not had the opportunity to involuntarily "memorize" the details.

For Episode #23, "How I'm Spending My Summer Vacation", in which the Arnolds attended the Coopers' backyard party, on one of the other channels there was a scene in the school of one of the windowed wooden classroom doors and some water hitting it, kind of a simulation of one of the old washers with a circle window. I think I read on one other board that Vice Principal DiPerna made a brief appearance.

edited episodes are fine for newer generation because they dont even know what is missing if they never seen it before. So atleast they get to enjoy the show

I just saw Episode #47, "Growing Up" (where the Arnolds "get away", or so Norma put it, to the Norcom Labor Day picnic), and they cut out the end of the scene at the picnic table (started with the Beatles' "When I'm 64") where Karen said, "Picnics are for fascists."

Speaking of this episode, I seem to remember Karen saying something like "__________ are for atheists" in one of the scenes (either the kitchen or the living room) at home before Norma announced the picnic. I only saw this once, possibly the original airing on ABC in 1990.

I just watched #48, "Ninth Grade Man," and they left out two things:

1. The ending of the scene of the final encounter between Kevin and Tony Barbella, where we didn't quite see him dislocate Kevin's thumb

2. Winnie saying (and echoing Madeline!) "You don't know how hard it is to be the new girl in school!" at the Pizza Barn. I was touched by this and the ION people cut it out--grr!

"Still, we never forgot our promise" was missing from the finale last night.

What's the point of the ION broadcast deleting that line from Dan Stern's narration? You know, as they're running down the parade line and they're showing Winnie and Kevin and going over how they wrote each other for eight years. Did some other part of the ep. get left out when they were in the barn together, thus not allowing the line to make sense or what? The dead silence on the narration kind of threw me there and I wondered what I missed?

They cut out most of the kissing scene in the barn last night. They showed the begining of it then there were ads and when it came back on, it was at the parade. They cut the whole rest of that scene out. I was so mad.
