Default Reuben didn't seem like he really loved Thelma

She was the agressor, having crushes on him early in the series, he really didn't seem interested. But as time went on, he started dropping hints on how he was going to marry her, even though they did tie the knot. But, it looked like he married her to make her happy, because if you ask me, they didn't seem like a fit couple.

He wasn't attracted to her but she just grew on him over time

I don't think anyone could grow on me if they repeatedly threw themselves on me like that.

I think Reuben always loved Thelma, just that he was too shy & bashful to admit it until later.

Thelma was not the most attractive thing either, lol. I always thought she was way too old to carry on the way she did. I could see a young, fat girl chasing after some cute guy.

You can say that again. What got on my nerves is how she whined all the time instead of talking.

At least the guy in the Army tried to break her out of doing that. Other than that, it was whine, whine, whine.

I wasn't wild about them as a couple either. I agree that Thelma was a champion whiner who complained about everything at the top of her lungs.

One thing was hysterical about her wedding day. Thelma is in her robe, hair still up in curlers waiting for her dress to arrive from the bridal shop. Every time the doorbell rings, it is the photographer, the caterer, and the florist but not the delivery man from the bridal shop. She gets more and more agitated by the minute. Finally the delivery man shows up with the dress. Casietta and Amelia tell Deacon a few minutes later from the stairwell about a catastrophe.

Thelma stalks down the stairs in a too-small tutu like wedding dress. The steamed look on her face as she marched over to the phone was priceless!

I always that said that her "daddy" paid the Rev to marry his hosebeast of a daughter. He was waaaaaay to good-looking to even give her the time of day.

I will say this in defense of the Thelma Frye character - she was well into her 30s, was stuck living at home with her father, had trouble finding a job, and despaired of ever finding true love. Trust me, I can relate, as I'm going through the same thing right now!!!

My issue is that she had more than one opportunity to succeed at her jobs and she just quit. One was real estate the other was the high paying position where she was matching swimsuit models for some magazine for her company. I realize her integrity came into play but at least go look for something else. She was a good cook for a while when she was in the army but then was back to being a bad cook. I thought Thelma was okay looking especially in season four when she wore the crimp style in the front of her hair.
