I've watched "To Sir, With Love" dozens of times since I first saw it in the late 70s/early 80s. I kind of assumed that the cast consisted of Sindey Portier and a bunch of British Actors/Actresses that I've never heard of, most of whom I've never seen in anything else (except Rita Webb is easily recognizable for the parts she played in Benny Hill's specials).
Anyway, the movie ran this weekend on Turner Classic movies, and I happened to watch the opening credits...I noticed Patricia Routledge's name, which was fairly prominent. In all the times I've watched the movie, I've never noticed her name in the credits. I'm sure a lot of you out there already know this, but it turns out she played one of the teachers in the movie... she's the one who shakes Portier's hand in the Teachers' Lounge, and then brings him a cup of coffee in his classroom at the end of his first day of teaching. Here are a few shots of her in "To Sir, With Love". |

Here's her name in the opening credits
Anyway, as I said, most of you probably knew about her role in TSWL, but I just thought I'd pass this along for anyone who wasn't aware of it. |

Tweety, thanks a lot for this info. I had no idea she was in the movie, and since I don't have it, the screen shots were essential to demonstrate it to me. I appreciate the effort you put into reproducing the screen shots here.

Is Mrs Bucket still alive and well? We don't hear much from her nowadays.

Thanks so much for sharing this info & pix -- I had not idea that Patricia R. had been in this movie -- I'll be sure to watch it again when the movie is on tv -- she certainly has had long and varied career!

Yes first poster I have seen the movie a few times but when i did see the movie I wasn't familiar with Patricia. It is later when you see the face, you say Oh that's so and so. The only scene I remember she was in was at the party the students gave Mr Thackeray. (Sidney). But she was in more from the photos shown. Posters you say she was born in 1929. She is 81. Wow

One of my all-time favourite movies!! I can watch it again and again and still get a lot out of it and cry at the end when Lulu goes into the title song.
Actually at the time, Lulu was fairly well known - but more as a singer of course. |
