Default The show's original title

I read in the Desilu book originally this show was entitled The Lucille Ball Show. Did they have any animated first season credits that read "The Lucille Ball Show"? The reruns for season one I've seen only have the opening credits that say "The Lucy Show".

Any reason why they changed it?

The show was NEVER called "The Lucille Ball Show" on the air, the earliest scripts had that title, but it was never used on the air. It's always been "The Lucy Show". This from Geoffrey Mark Fidelman's "The Lucy Book".

According to the Complete Directory To Primetime Network And Cable Shows by Tim Brooks and Earl Marsh it was changed to The Lucy Show after one month on the air...then again that information might be a mistake.

It is a mistake. Like a lot of info in those early TV books. Note it also says Lucy moved to San Francisco from Danfield. And they even list Danfield as being in CONNECTICUT. They really should have fixed this stuff in the revised editions.

But Danfield (at least on the show) was in Ct.

No, it isn't. It's stated several times within the series that the Danfield on "The Lucy Show" is in New York. Perhaps you're thinking of when Lucy moved to Connecticut on "I Love Lucy".

Hmm...in that episode Danfield is mentioned, but the state is not. Yet in another episode I've seen, I believe I recall someone saying Danfield wasn't too far from New Rochelle.

Don't always count on the California episodes to always be correct. After all, it is in these episodes that Lucy sends a card to her son Jimmy. Unless she had a third child we never knew about, I always thought his name was Jerry!

Haha, oh yeah! I realize that, but it was mentioned as being near New Rochelle in the earlier seasons, when Martin and Davis were still aboard and there was still some continuity! lol As a matter of fact, in the show I just saw (Lucy Puts Out a Fire at the Bank), Mr. Mooney tells Lucy and Viv they won't need to fund the volunteer fire department anymore, as they'll now be using the New Rochelle fire department. BTW, the name in the script of that episode (Lucy Gets Caught in the Draft) originally was Jerry, yet Lucy insisted on saying Jimmy, as she confused the actor (Jimmy Garrett) with the character (Jerry Carmichael). All this info and more can be found in "The Lucy Book" by Geoffrey Mark Fidelman.

Remember that 1964 episode with the two bank robbers who rent a room in Lucy and Viv's house because they claim they're want to visit the New York World's Fair? The location of "Danfield" HAD to be in upstate New York, because Connecticut would be too far away for someone to find lodgings and visit the "World's Fair" at the same time!
