Default Tobey Maguire to Play Fourth Spider-Man

Spider-Man actor Tobey Maguire will play the web-slinging superhero a fourth time.

The Hollywood star denied reports that he's quitting the blockbuster movie series, confirming that plans for the fourth installment of the popular franchise are already in the pipeline.

He says, "They'll definitely develop a fourth movie and write a screenplay, and I would consider it if there's a good script, a good story that I felt was worth telling and Sam Raimi was involved and the right cast came together for it."

Default Sam Raimi Confirms Spidey 4, 5 and 6!

At the Los Angeles press junket today, Spider-Man 3 director Sam Raimi confirmed that Sony Pictures is doing a 4th, 5th and 6th installment of the popular franchise.

We'll have his exact words shortly, but Raimi said that he hasn't had time to think of any involvement and he doesn't want to presume Sony would want him to direct.

He said there has to be a good story to tell and that "it'd be very hard to say goodbye to 'Spider Man.'"

Spider-Man 3 opens in conventional theaters and IMAX on May 4.

At the moment, it's being said that Sam Raimi may be tapped to direct The Hobbit. Raimi has said that if Peter Jackson were to give his blessing, he might consider it.

I have not heard anything concrete about a fourth Spider-Man that would feature the current cast. I think that even if Raimi, Maguire, et al, do agree to reunite for a fourth film, it will be a long time before we see it.

My fear is that it will go the Batman route with another cast and director and not hold up to the high standards of Raimi's Spider-films. Obviously, I haven't seen Spider-Man III yet, but I'm sure at the very least it will be good.

This is a money-making franchise for Sony studios and Marvel Comics and they want the cash cow to keep laying those money-making eggs.

Stay tuned...

There are plenty of stories and villains they can use, so it would make sense to keep going as long as people want to see the movies. If they don't make a 4th installement they should do a tv series.

Bottom line is that if Spider-Man III is a hit - and I think it's a safe bet to say it will be - the studio will continue churning them out, whether it be with Tobey Maguire or Actor X in the lead role.

I just hope if they do continue without Raimi, Maguire, et al, that they maintain the level of quality established in the first three films. I'm sure there are other directors capable of helming a good Spidey film - hopefully, one of them will end up doing it if Raimi decides to move on.

Just keep it out of the hands of Brett Ratner.

I dunno. I didn't think his X-Men III was all that bad. Certainly not on a par with Bryan Singer's I & II, which I thought were both equally good, but a decent enough film.

I mean, think about it - Joel Schumacher could have directed it.

Default Dunst: "'Spider-Man 4' Will Be Out by 2011"

Kirsten Dunst will return to the Spider-Man franchise with Tobey Maguire and director Sam Raimi for a fourth outing of the web-slinging superhero, which will be ready for release by 2011.

Dunst, currently in London for the European premiere of Spider-Man 3, believes the leading stars will reunite at least once more for another project on the comic book hero--despite reports the third installment of the movie would be the last featuring the current cast.

She says, "I think it might happen if me, Tobey and Raimi are all on board. I think it'll happen. It'll probably be out in four years at the latest."

Bottom line, if they change the cast, I'm out. Not that I'm overly fond of Maquire, but I'm very particular about such things.

Everything is speculation at this point. No one has signed on for anything and there is no script or anything in process. Unlike the previous films, where they went right to work on the sequels, this is officially the last hurrah, which is probably why they crammed it with villains this time out.

Now, Raimi and everyone else may come on board for a fourth go-round, but I have a sinking feeling that whether that happens or not, we will see a Spider-Man IV somewhere down the line. Sony owns the franchise and will run it into the ground. This is show business and money is the bottom line.

Just look at what happened with the Batman films of the '90s and you'll see what I mean.

a fourth spiderman flim i'd accept but a fifth and sixth one is going a bit too far and it would be milking the francise. also, it would be predictable and boring because they'll probably be the same as the first 3 films- only of course with different arch enemies

If there can be 7 Harry Potter films, then Spider-Man can do the same.
