Do you think 15 is too young to get a learners permit to drive?
My son is 15 and a half and he went today and passed the written test for his learners permit. He has to have a licensed driver with him whenever he drives. I wanted him to wait until he turned 16 but he talked his dad into taking him this morning. |

I think the earlier you start, the better. More time to practice...
I didn't get mine until I was 21.....

15 is about right. I can't wait to get mine. But here you have to take drivers ed before you can get anything.

It depends on the maturity level of the person. I was very young when I got my license. The laws have changed since then, but I had it before I was 16. As for your son, you know him better than anyone. If he's responsible, I think it will be fine.

anyway id say as long as he has a driver in the car with him, he should be ok. |

Whenever I let him drive my car, he does really well. He has to keep the learners permit for a year and then will get a restricted license that lasts for another year, then he will get a regular license after that. I guess I'm just being a worry-wart thinking of all the bad things that can happen once he starts driving. |

In North Dakota, you can be 14 to get your driver's permit. When I was in eighth grade, I knew other people in my grade who already had their permit. That's what happens when you live in a rural state... people live on farms, and learn how to drive when they are really young, in order to help out on the farm and whatnot. It especially helps if someone lives in a less-populated part of the state and need a way to get to/from school/work on a daily basis, in an area where public transportation isn't widely available.
At least, it's like that in the northern half of ND. I'm down south in the more populated part of the state now, and people here typically get their license when they are 15/16. |
