He did, and I want more inner-city blacks to really take up the game. Baseball has become a sport of which blacks don't choose to go to. They really should, because the number of black players in the MLB is at an all-time low. The problem I have with some black youths, is that they think they can make it in only football and basketball. In a lot of cases, you don't have to go to college and if you're scouted, you could be in the majors by the age of 20.

GarfieldKool black youth in the ghetto aren't interested in baseball because it's boring LOL. Basketball and football are the only good sports to black kids because it's exciting. I'm not surprised that there's a small amount of blacks in major league baseball. I'm glad that Jackie Robinson paved the way for black men to play baseball in the majors but baseball is boring to me.

I know that, that's why I said they should take up the game. They need to know there are other sports other than football and basketball. In the neighborhood where I grew up at, this recreation center had a baseball program, where black youths played and were damned good at it. I just hate when some black youths say that baseball is a white sport, because it isn't, it is for whoever wants to play the game. I personally don't follow baseball either, but it is a great sport.

Oh No

I know no one wants to hear what I have to say, but IMO baseball dropped the ball (no pun intended) and turned its back on the intercity youth, and decided to build baseball acadmey's in the Dominican Republic, instead on hear in our own country, which is why the game is now dominated by the Dominican's and has shut out black youths.

If you remember in the 1970's there were plenty of black players, and they were exciting to watch, they were fast down the line, and in the outfield it was a great show to watch them rundown balls that looked like they were going out of the park, and diving for hits and robbing players of double and triples by throwing them out. No now baseball is as boring as watching paint dry.

IMO baseball is very hypocritical to celebrate Jackie Robinson, when it has failed to continue to include more African Americans in the game.

JMO!!!!

I agree with this somewhat. They asked how Jackie Robinson's wife how would jackie feel about the game today and she said he'd feel dissapointed. Baseball does not excite me as much as it did before. Watching those tapes with kirby pucket come up big in situations ans watching ozzie smith with his acrobatic skills. What happned to those types of african american players.
