Default New Gilligan DVD in the works.....direct from the Schwartzes

Hi There,

Okay my name isn't Harold Hecuba but I'm working with Lloyd Schwartz and we are talking to DVD distributors about releasing at least 'Rescue From Gilligan's Island' on DVD, and it will be a quality print of it unlike the version floating around. With any luck we will also put out the other two movies and the cartoons but we're still looking into the rights( 'Castaways' is looking pretty free and clear so far).

In any case, I gather that fans liked the GI DVDs that Warner put out but were less than satisfied with the extras.

My vision of this project is to create a Gilligan collectable that no fan can be without so I'd like to know what extras that you, the fans, would be most interested in seeing on such a set.

Now remember, this is only in the talking stages now but please do tell me what you think.

Hi, welcome to the boards!

As my name says I am a Gilligan Fanatic, I have been collecting everything GI related for about 7 years now. This is what I have in my collection as of right now that is GI related. http://www.freewebs.com/gftapes/gill...slandstuff.htm

I have pictures from a lot of them in this thread http://www.sitcomsonline.com/boards/...d.php?t=175182

I will also be getting the This is Your Life of Jim Backus in sometime soon. I also have an original ad for the second season premiere. I also have other Sherwood Schwartz series such as Big John Little John and Harper Valley.

These are some things from my collection that I think are the most important.

*The Late Show Reunion from 1988 - Last time they are all together
*Family Feud - The Cast VS Batman - I have all of there appearances on the show, but this one was very fun to watch because they were unstopable.
*Good Morning America Reunion - From 1982, features all of them, but Jim Backus is much healthier and jokes around a lot more.
*All Acess Pass the TV Land Awards - Last time Bob Denver is with the crew.
*The Barbara McNair Show - Jim Backus in a very nice interview, this is from 1970.
*Welcome to Haland - Natalie Schafers last interview.
*Entertainment Tongiht - I have about 10 different interview, they last a few minutes each.

If you would like to see any of these for DVD consideration I will gladly donate copies of them. I want to help out on the DVD in anyway. Just let me know.

Those are all good ideas GF and in fact they closely resemble my own wish list. However, the deciding factors are A) our budget and B) whether or not those clips are available to be licensed. You'd be surprised at how expensive some of the clips you mentioned are to use and in the case of ET they almost never allow outside entities to use their material.

My guess is that while we may be able to include some of those, that a lot of the extras will have to be 'homemade' such as new interviews and audio commentary. But I'm right there with you as far as wanting to include the stuff you mentioned.

Also, if you can find copies of the movies 'Reunion In France' and 'Father Was A Fullback' then check them out. They feature the 2nd ever screen appearances of Natalie Schafer and Jim Backus, respectively. Watching them you see that Jim was playing a character with Mr. Howell but Natalie was playing herself as Lovee. It's so funny to see her at approximately forty years old and very much the way we remember her.

I have been meaning to get Father was a Fullback. I know it was released on VHS.

Harold Hecuba, since you are associated with the Schwartzes there is something I was wondering and you may be able to help me out. I have a book of Unsold TV Pilots and one that was mentioned was called "The Help". Sherwood Schwartz produced it and Phil Silvers is in it. It doesn't list an air date in the book. In fact it doesn't even say it was ever filmed. Do you know any details about the pilot?

Smile Added features

Hi! This is good news! As far as added features go, it would be great for
fans to be able to have clips from some of the TV shows such as "Baywatch,"
"All My Children," "Howard Stern," etc. that featured GI themes and skits.
It may be difficult for fans to obtain these at this point, especially if it
involved purchasing other, unwanted episodes of other shows in a set.
Of course, I do not know the legal/financial problems involved.
Another interesting idea would be to have something about the plans for
the additional seasons. A common complaint of true GI fans is that the show
ended and they have "no more." I think both of these additions would spark
purchases of any new DVDs.
Also, would you happen to know if it is possible to obtain a script, or at
least copies of some of the song lyrics from the GI musical? If so, how?
Many fans are very interested in the musical but it has played in only a few
towns over the years. Thanks!!!

I believe the script for the musical is available through Samuel French Inc.
I doubt that the 'Stern' clip is in the running since we want this to be something that is family oriented.
I'm unaware of the 'All My Children' segment.
I will ask Sherwood or Lloyd about 'The Help' at some point. Sounds very funny. I also will ask him if he had any storylines for the unmade next season. That's an interesting thought.

Thanks for all your interest.

Hi,

This is the 'So Called Working With Lloyd Schwartz' guy. I was just speaking to the 'So Called Father of Lloyd who created the so called series' and he said that 'The Help' was never produced. The idea was that it would take place in the home of a wealthy couple and the characters would be the domestics in the house(and you'd never actually see the couple). He didn't mention Phil Silvers but he said that he had Sheldon Leonard in mind for the chauffer.

Thanks for the info, that is to bad it wasn't made. Sounds like it could be fun and zanny like GI. I am suprised about Sheldon Leonard, everything I have seen with him acting is high drama. That would have been interesting to see the behind the scenes of the show since Sheldon Leonard was doing Andy Griffith and Dick Van Dyke at the time the book said the pilot was made. Again, thanks for asking about it for me.

I agree with Harold Hecuba about the family theme. I have the Howard Stern interview and it is very different. You could tell Bob Denver was very uncomfortable being there. This was made about 2 years after Alan Hale passed away and Howard Stern jokes about the castaways eating him. I had to turn it off after that.

It's funny how you are ready to help "this so called working with Lloyd Schwartz guy" with donating your bootleg videos. (Not that they would be able to use any of your video copies to begin with as they are bootlegs and they are copyrighted & they have nothing to do with the reunion films.)
I know he couldn't use my copies, I just thought that before they purchased the rights to something it would be in there best intrest to preview something first. Nothing I have is copied from a Studio Released DVD or VHS, they are all recorded from the TV.

He mentioned extras, to quote him this is what he said.

I wanted to help you but you bugged me, I was gone for about three weeks and you accused me of being a selfish GI fan, in reality I have a life out side this board, I can't come here every day to respond to people like you.

That is very bad to say something like that without backing it up. You have no proof he isn't working with them. You have no proof of anything. No evidence, just talk. Many people from DVD companies come here. A user at the DVD board here has talked about the My Favorite Martian DVD's
http://www.sitcomsonline.com/boards/...d.php?t=177816

I have been at Sitcoms Online for about 6 years and this isn't something new for legitmate people to come here for fan input.

Before I start, let me just say to Harold Hecuba that all of us true fans really appreciate what you're doing for us and I cannot wait for this to happen! After a more than disappointing DVD month, finally it looks like there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Now then, Jack77, you have been nothing but downright rude on this entire thread, FIRST to our guest and then to our forum veteran GilliganFanatic. We're all willing to give Harold Hecuba the benefit of the doubt, so why the hell are you so paranoid about the whole situation? Are you always like this, thinking that strangers are always bad people, without forming a rationalized judgment of them first? It's childish, disrespectful, and rude. I've never seen such cruelty on these boards then you just bashing 2 of our forum members. And don't worry, I will STAY TUNED... to see what your "proof" will be... because right now it seems the only proof you'd have would be "because I said so."

Harold Hecuba, I'd love to see brand new interviews with the cast, documentaries, commentaries, all of the movies and subsequent series (as many episodes as possible), bloopers, deleted scenes, the afore-mentioned ideas for season four, maybe a few little featurettes on show popularity, collectibles, etc., as well as photo galleries, footage from the TVLand Awards featuring the cast, and lost footage (show promos, plugs, guest appearances by the cast, etc.). And a heartfelt thank you for all the effort you're putting into this project.

Pat

Actually Jack 77 is right. I am trying to find out what you, the fans would like to see as DVD extras. If I'm able to use your suggestions then, with any luck, you'll buy a DVD and then I'll make money off of you ; ) .

Come to think of it, Sherwood Schwartz was trying to make money off of all of you by creating GI in the first place. AND YOU ALL FELL FOR IT! BWAAAAAHHHHAAAA!

I thank you GF and others for the well wishes. It sounds like we are all on the same page as far as what we'd like this thing to look like. I'd like to stress that this thing is very much in the planning stages and we don't know for sure what's going to happen yet. Many stars all have to cross before this becomes a reality, all involving rights and clearances.

Out of morbid curiosity I must ask this. Which is it that makes you bristle, the idea that I may not really work with the Schwartzes or the idea that I do but I just want to make money off of you?

Please say hello to your source connected with the picture.

I'm also a bit confused why this is such an issue. Like HH, I don't know why "making money off of us" is suposed to be wrong or evil. I'm sure the Schwartzes want us fans to be happy and enjoy GI, but projects don't happen unless you can exploit a demand, cover expenses, and make enough profit for it to be worth your while. I'm happy for them if they were blessed with having a new angle on this after all these years and don't blame them at all for using avenues that are essentially free. If anyone's ever seen the kind of fees that market research demands, you'd do the same.

I'm also unsure why it matters so much who HH is. WE certainly aren't involved in a project with the Schwartzes, so there is no way we can be cheated. If he's a fake, then he's someone who is getting amusement by posing. That would be a little sad, but also there would be no harm in allowing a little amusement into his life. Also, in the end, we would be left with good ideas and discussion that could be passed on at some point in the future. If HH is on the level, then we may wind up having some great special features.

In any case, HH has been nothing but nice and gracious. I'd be happy to give some of the money I make from "exploiting" people who desire my professional services to allow him and the Schwartzes to "exploit" me.

Jeez get your crap together before you catch an attitude. It's only bootlegged if he buys it not if he tapes it off television or trades for it.If taping things is illegal than most of the country would be behind bars. This is what the VCR was made for in the first place.
