Sammy Wheeler Murder--Need Info - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

I watched this one the other night, and I don't remember an update when I saw it years ago, but there is one. Apparently the murder was an act of random violence.

This segment still intrigues me even though it has been solved. Even though none of the "suspects," that the UM segment presented, did it, it is still amazing to watch the verbal sparring and hatred that his death created. The human psychology in this segment would make quite a case study and was extremely entertaining.

Mr. Bean made my skin crawl a bit. He had a smirk about him that spelled guilty. He claimed that his ex-wife "Pat" did it. The fact he made his kids get on home video and testify to seeing the murder, that they evidently did not see, is quite noxious. Later Bean claimed that it was quite possible that Sammy's brother did it.

Then you had Sammy's girlfriend, Pat, (Bean's ex-wife) proclaiming that Bean did it. She also said that she thought Sammy's twin brother could have done it because someone told her he was in love with her. Since this case points to a suspect not connected with any of them, I wonder how many of her statements against Bean and Sammy's brother were fabricated. It seems she was trying awfully hard to "protect" herself, to the point of making up lies, which makes one wonder about her motives.

Then you had Sammy's twin brother pointing the finger at Bean and at Pat. At first he seemed to focus his attention on Bean, but later in the segment he really blasted Pat. I found it weird that Sammy's twin claimed that Bean hired a guy to come photograph the house. This is quite unordinary and it is hard for me to believe that one of the three people in the segment did not have involvement in some way.

I was thinking, while watching, that if one of them did do it, it was not the brother. He seemed, by far, the most sincere.

Does anyone have a link that I can visit that goes into detail about the suspect captured? Has there been a trial? Was he convicted? What evidence did they discover that links this suspect to the crime?

I'm positive this was a story that Unsolved Mysteries knew that it was a random act of violence, but when they interviewed those 3, they knew that they had gold. Why the hell else would the segment go on for so long? I would love to hear what the interviewers and cameramen said after they got done.

If you do a search on this board you will find that most of us regard Danny Wheeler and Bob Bean as to put it nicely "not the sharpest tools in the shed". These are classic examples of people who should've not been interviewed for UM. Their recounting of the events is heavily tainted because they are both trying to exonerate themselves while at the same time point the finger at and aired dirty laundry about the others in a very public manner.

I highly doubt any of those three were involved in the murder of Sammy Wheeler. I don't think there is enough motive there for any one of them...I think their harsh words and the negative light they paint each other in can make the viewer think there is enough motive but its likely Sam Wheeler's death was a random act of violence in my mind anyhow although there is always the possibility that one of them hired a hitman to kill Sam but that is really stretching it in my view.

These are just three people in my mind babbling on, telling stories and perhaps starstruck that they are gonna be on TV.

There isn't a lot of info on the Wheeler case, however a book was published awhile back with the assistance of Danny Wheeler but its impossible to find. The only reference on the internet about it, is a announcement of a promotional event given by the author of the book. If you could track this book down though, it would probably give you more info.

Yes, I agree while Bob Bean seems guilty, I even thought he was guilty for a while, however the more I have thought about it, the more I have realized he isnt guilty and had nothing to do with it. If he were in fact guilty he would just not be that cocky unless he was so arrogant he felt he was totally untouchable. You just wouldnt act that cocky if you were guilty, if for no other reason because you wouldnt want to seem guilty if you were really guilty.

The best way to describe Bob Bean is: arrogant, hilarious jerk that's not guilty of murder. I agree with Dante, none of them had real motives. Plus, they all had relatively solid alibis, so the first time I watched it, I didn't think any of the 3 of them were guilty. I particularly thought Danny was innocent, as he gave one of the most genuine interviews in UM history, as Thiussant touched upon. Plus, Bean was too cocky to be guity, as kadrmas mentioned. Pat Snead wouldn't have had any motive, as she hadn't even married Wheeler yet, so there would have been no insurance policy. At first, it does seem kind of weird that 3 seeminly good suspects are all innocent. However when I thought about it, anybody that gets killed is going to have family members suspected: it's the first place the police look. Sometimes it's just not the case, it's a random act. I can understand the trio's bickering to a certain extent though, they probably did figure it was one of the other two in each of their cases.

i thought this was a great story, although, almost halfway through, I completely forget that theres a murder that happened and a victim, it just turns into 3 peoples accusations. I think the wife did it for some reason, she seems sketched, sketched enough to say that dude was in love with her. I think the character they got to play danny was hilarious, when he takes the gun to go over to bob beans and hes all freaking out, haha. Bob bean has a solid alibi and I know danny didn't do it.

Danny Wheeler had me rolling during that eppie. Everytime he gets to that part, "Just by coincidence...just by coincidence..." I swear, I don't know how the person interviewing him kept a straight face!

Danny Wheeler used to play for the Chicago Bulls. He won a few championships as well as several scoring titles along the way.

In between that he also played minor league baseball. After he got done with the Bulls he played for the Washington Wizards a few years later.

I am a huge UM fan. My younger brother, while not the fan I am, has a true appreciation for the television epic masterpiece that was Unsolved Mysteries.

Anyhow, I've been telling my brother for months about this case such as Bob Bean's smirk and the "I knew what I had..." comment and the "just by coincidence.." comment from Danny Wheeler. Whne my brother came to visit over the weekend, I had the opportunity to show him the segment.
He made the mistake of taking a drink right before Danny Wheeler said "just by coincidence". By the time "I used to play for the Chicago Bulls" was said, my brother was spitting out his drink from laughing.
