Do you like Linda Lavin better as Alice or Wentworth? - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

Since I love Barney Miller so much, I'm much more used to Linda Lavin as Det. Janice Wentworth. She appeared from 1975-76; then left to join Alice. I liked how Janice's mouth often got her into trouble.

Well we saw alot more of her as Alice but I did like her Wentworth character on Barney Miller too. Its too bad she couldn't have stayed on BM for awhile longer.

What's funny for me is that as much as I love Barney Miller (then and now), I couldn't get into Linda as her character on Barney Miller. I much prefer her as Alice Hyatt.

I liked both characters they were different, though I'm use to the Alice character more so than the Janice character.

Here's a couple of fun facts: Vic Tayback (Mel) guest starred on Barney Miller in its first season, just like LL. (She appeared in 4 more episodes in the second season). They weren't in the same episode, however.

Hal Linden had his own TV special in 1979, and LL was one of his guests:

I prefer Alice Hyatt. She seemed more caring and nurturing. Janice Wentworth was too much of a big mouth.

^ That's the very reason why I liked Wentworth so much. She was a firecracker - brash, overenthusiastic, and never knew when to shut up.

Alice was kind of dull to me - and she was the title character!!

Yes, Wojo and Wentworth dated in Season 2. It was a pretty funny storyline.
