They did seem to have good chemistry, also the show being very funny helped too.

Yes the actors liked each other and they were in sync on screen otherwise this series would have never lasted that long. That kind of chemistry does mean something. Interestingly I some of the writers/producers in the 80s went on to do Cheers and Frasier and I saw them being interviewed one time and they basically said the Jeffersons was just a stepping stone job because the writing that was called for for it was mediocre. Funny that they trashed their own writing. But it was the acting that kept the show on. Lots of emmy nominations in the 80s for acting- zip for writing, directing or the series overall.

Those actors got along well and it shows in their work on screen. That also extends to Paul Benedict, Mike Evans and Berlinda Tolbert, all of whom had the door open for them to come back after they left the series. I just watched Social Insecurity (early year 9) where George videotapes his will and includes everyone- he even gives a shout out to Bentley who wasn't even on the show at that point and he mentions Lionel and Jessica in detail (Jessica was nowhere to be seen in that season either). So that show had a family sort of dynamic to it that made tuning into it week after week a comforting experience.
