I'm not sure if anyone can call this region football country, but it certainly seems like it. Yes, the Steelers won Super Bowl XL to give veteran RB Jerome Bettis a proper sendoff in his native Detroit, but since the Colts won Super Bowl XLI, both the Lions and Browns have been busy attempting to bolster their respective teams in every phase of the game. The Lions traded DB Dre Bly to the Broncos for the services of RB Tatum Bell and also got some O-Line help, just as they did yesterday, when they acquired Eddie Mulitalo after the Ravens let him go(they also got RB T.J. Duckett from the Redskins). The Browns got another Ravens castoff, RB Jamal Lewis and subsequently traded RB Reuben Droughns to the Giants for WR Tim Carter. They also got former Titans DT Robaire Smith and got G Eric Steinbach and DT Shaun Smith from the Bengals. However, the efforts of both Romeo Crennel(Browns) and Rod Marinelli(Lions) will mean very little if their respective teams don't improve next season. The Colts recently brought back G Rick DeMulling from the Lions. They also retained specialist Dan Klecko for next season. The Steelers are almost in the same boat after letting go of controversial LB Joey Porter and keeping their running game alive by retaining RB Najeh Davenport. The Colts and Steelers will replenish their player losses to free agency in the upcoming draft. The Browns and Lions will add to their free agent acquisitions in the draft as well. The Bengals, in the meanwhile, really need to clean house, big time. They need to go into a different direction, get rid of the law-breaking knuckleheads, replacing them with reliable players without character issues and send a message to the players that such blasphemous off-field behavior isn't going to be tolerated, any longer(get rid of Chris Henry and go get former Broncos WR Darius Watts). The Colts are still an elite team, but so are the Steelers. Expect the Colts in the postseason next season. The Steelers will return to the playoffs. The Bengals need to clean up their team, entirely. The Browns and Lions need to prove, once and for all with all their free agent acquistions that they can be a better team. Now, this assesment isn't completely accurate, but if anyone can relate to this thread, please chime in with your thoughts.
