Well season 1 to 2 took so long to be released because they couldnt get the music rights...
Why is that a good thing you ask? Well the theme music on the season 2 dvd was the theme music from the season 3 to 11 seasons so it goes to show that they got the rights to music that was in season 3 to 11 so all they need now is to release season 3 to 11 because they've already secured the music rights to those seasons... |

well, that all depends... are they just going to be giving us the episodes with all the music stripped out and scenes removed or are they going to TRY and get the rights to the other music?

Was Rock Around The Clock used on the season 1 DVD? If it was you would think they had already secured the rights to that for season 2 too.

i'm pretty sure that they have to secure the rights for each use of the song, and for each separate release.
I would guess that we won't be seeing ANY Elvis songs on Happy Days, or Chubby Checker (which wouldn't be until the later seasons anyways) - he has said that he wants at least a million dollars for each use of any of his songs and he has sued for any use of "The Twist" that implies his song OR the dance. |

Chubby Checker should just be glad that he has music in a show that's coming to DVD. It's publicity for his music. If someone hears it on the Happy Days DVD, likes it, and goes out to buy a CD of his, then he makes some more money. Instead that greedy (beep)stard wants a million dollars for a crappy song. I LOVE oldies music, but "The Twist" is one song I've never cared for. However, because it was originally in the show, I want it in the DVD.
*sarcasm*I think I'll write and perform a song and then charge a million dollars to anyone who sings it. *sarcasm* The artists should be about the music they make. I understand it's their job, and of course everybody needs money. But when I hear something like that, it makes me think he's all about the money and not about the music. Much like, I like performers to just sit on a stool and sing their song to an accoustic guitar as opposed to them putting on a big show, with flashing lights and dancers on the stage and all that excitement stuff. Fonzie help us!

so they had to use the theme from seasons 3-11. I don't consider that to be a good sign. |

It sounds to me like the music from the shows were remakes of original hits, at least too many of the songs were, so its no big deal to me, as long as the episodes have all of the scenes.

i would assume that Paramount looked at the total sales of Season one and set a strict budget for music licensing - they knew EXACTLY how much they wanted to spend on it for Season 2, and that is why music is changed.
I honestly think that they COULD have gotten the rights for the "Rock Around the Clock" opening, but CHOSE not to, just to save some money - thinking that most fans wouldn't be so upset about THAT change in particular. |

hey hd fans based on what i have heard about the music change we all have better pray that if this is true abot the music change that it will not be the generic replacement music that is heard in syndication because if thats the case some of us meaning the fans will be pissed off and trust me of what i tell you, if season 2 does not sell well we all can forget about seeing season 3 and the other series because paramont knows how long we have been waited for the show, hey they are taking a big gamble and believe me if some of the episode are edited it is not worth buying the show, and i feel really sorry for paramount because if people buy the dvd and find out about the editing and missing scenes and plus generic music thats heard in syndication, then there will be no season 3 and i wonder what garry marshal has to say about this

There's no "good" in any of this. If we all buy season 2 of Happy Days the way it is, then Paramount will just release the rest with the music edits, thinking "Hey, they'll still buy them". And if we don't buy the DVD because we don't like the edits, then they won't release seasons three and on. So hopefully, I'm wrong. If we all buy the DVD, Paramount will use the money to get the music rights for the next set to make it complete. But they're a business, so they don't give a crap about us.
