TV Coming to the Big Screen and Starring Bernie Mac?

http://www.moviehole.net/news/200703...the_movie.html

Here we go again….

With the “Dallas” and “I Dream of Jeannie” films deferred, Columbia has spotted a windowpane of opportunity to get another ‘TV show film’ off the ground. The Culver City gang have locked in Bernie Mac and Nick Cannon to star in a big-screen version of the classic TV sitcom “Sanford and Son”.

Yep, “Sanford and Son”.

The film version – again fixing on the misadventures of a cantankerous junk dealer and his frustrated son – has been in development for a few years now actually. It’s been playing musical chairs with several studios – ultimately landing at Sony.

No word on when this’ll get up, nor who’s brave enough to direct it (surely Dennis Dugan’s available?) – but that’s the word on the littery streets

I wish they would leave classics like this alone. No one can ever hold a candle to Redd Foxx as Fred Sanford, nor should they ever try.

This kind of thing just never seems to get off the ground or if it does it is not done well. I hope if they do make Sanford and Son into a movie they do a good job at.

Amen. For one, Nick Cannon is too corny and goofy to play Lamont. Rollo..maybe..but not Lamont. Secondly, nobody can do Fred Sanford justice but Redd Foxx. Redd was Fred...plain and simple.

I agree with you about Nick Cannon. Not only that, he maybe a few years too young to play Lamont. No one can play Fred like you mentioned, but I think Sinbad would be a better choice than Bernie Mac.

If they released a "documentary", with out takes from the original show, interviews, commentary, ect. as a full length movie....I would pay to see it. I was disapointed that the DVDs didnt have those kind of extras that you usually get when you buy DVDs.....especially a box set!

Nick is 26 and Demond was 25 when he began playing Lamont.
