Default What are the ages of the characters?

I don't care abt Mel's age, but as far as Alice, Flo and Vera? Watching it I was always wondering what Flo and Vera's ages were. With Alice, I kind of figured she had Tommy at the age of 24, so she must be playing the part of a 34 year old, AT LEAST.

I think Alice and Flo were supposed to around 35(Linda Lavin and Polly Holliday were around 38 or 39 when Alice started)and Vera was probably late 20s early 30s(Beth Howland was about 35 during the first season).

From watching the first few seasons, this is what I picked up:

In a season 3 episode (1978) it is revealed that Vera is 31.

Also in season 3, in the Jerry Reed episode "The Star in the Storeroom", it is mentioned that Jerry Reed is 36 and Flo is 6 years older than the singer, making her 42.

Alice turned 40 in a season 5 episode(1981), so when the series began she would have been about 35.

Hope this helps!

I think they all are mid-30's

They always made out like Flo was alot older, but in real life, Linda Lavin and Polly Holliday are only a few months apart in age (both were born in 1937)

Flo certainly looked her age. Alice didn't. I can't even begin to say what Vera looked like. She looked like she belonged on those "special buses".

Do you rememebr which episode? I was just watching the 3rd season episode "What Happened to the Class of '78?", and Vera received a letter from a high school friend about their 15th class reunion..Which would probably make her 33 (assuming she graduated when she was 18)

Actually, that was season 2, not 3

Oh, yeah you're right. I don't know why I always assume that was in season 3. The episode where Vera's age was revealed was in "Vera's Popcorn Romance" where everyone wanted to meet Vera's new boyfriend Brian. When Mel found out she was considering moving in with him, he remarked "You're ONLY 31 Years Old!!!"
I do remember the other ep. about Flo going to nightschool to get her diploma and Vera talking about getting a letter to go to her H.S. reunion. That episode was also season 3, so I guess they weren't consistent with her age. Just kept it in the 'early 30s' range.

The way Vera acted she sure didn't behave like a woman in her 30's.

They must have cut that part out when it aired on E! I just watched that episode (it was the next one on my tape after the "What Happened to the Class of '78?" one I watched yesterday) and there wasn't any mention of her age.
